Hello friends and welcome to September! I didn't think I was gonna make it this far but I did and I'm here and we should all celebrate the fact that my favorite time of year is here! Huzzah!
As usual at this time of year, I start to get excited about my annual tradition of spreading the joy of links and crafts and pics that delight me all to do with my favorite time of year. If some of you have been here a while, you'll have no doubt noticed that the previous couple of years have had some glitches in them. Glitches as in I didn't get a chance to post much of anything past a couple of weeks. Now, to some degree, this is due to school and midterms all falling in that time frame. It also had a lot of personal drama that came up in October, usually right around the time that things got tough in school. Thankfully, I have no sick and dying relatives this time around and I also have no significant other drama to cause me minor heart failure and ruin my life. And this all calls for celebration friends! So starting early this year, I figured I would start things off with a recipe! Usually I lock these things up when I print off a recipe but screw that noise because honestly, the magazine I got this out of didn't think twice about charging you two years in a row for the same recipes (with some of the same pictures even) so feel free to enjoy without having to pay for it. This one is apparently on me. :P
Mulled Cider
Whatcha need:
- 4 cups water
- 2 tsp allspice
- 1 cinnamon stick
- Dash of ground cloves
- 1 gallon apple cider or unsweetened apple juice
- 1 can lemonade concentrate (thawed)
- 3/4 cups orange juice
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1 individual tea bag*
Whatcha need to do:
1. In a large pot, combine the water, allspice, cinnamon stick and cloves. Bring to a boil.
2. Reduce heat and simmer uncovered for 30 min
3. Add rest of the ingredients and return to a boil. Discard cinnamon stick and tea bag and stir.
4. Serve warm and if you are feeling really fancy, garnish with a cinnamon stick.
*Note: The recipe says just put in a tea bag so I imagine that it's just your regular Orange Pekoe tea that they are referring to. Feel free to add something different though to spice it up. Also, if you leave it for longer, you'll have a stronger flavor so feel free to experiment!
So there you go. Here's a good recipe for you to brew your own cider rather than relying on that crappy stuff that comes in the pouches. I chose this one because it's got a little bit of a kick with the lemonade but again, feel free to add whatever strikes your fancy. Better yet, come up with your own concoctions before Halloween to serve to any guests or ghosts that happen through your door!
That's it for now. Stay tuned for more Halloween goodness and until then, Happy Haunting!
