The silvery moonbeams sliced by the thin slats of the venetian blinds transformed the inky darkness into a pale gray and lent a faint, almost ethereal illumination to the mundane and quiet little space as it slumbered on.
In the wee hours of the dawn, the broken tap dripped on in a steady rhythm over the unwashed mugs and saucers, left to soak in what was now a murky basin of water, after a rushed dinner of instant food and bitter green tea. Beside the kitchen sink, the small refrigerator whirred on. It had been more than a month since it had last been defrosted and badly needed cleaning. Containers of half, or barely finished food lay undisturbed and had probably nurtured a small ecosystem on its own while calmly sitting beside packets of frozen snacks and cans of carbonated drinks. In the middle of the small kitchen was a small table, and on either side was a chair which had barely been used. Within the small cupboards were sets of dinnerware, and expensive china lazily gathering dust and patiently waiting to see the light, looking forward to the day when they will finally be used.
Mildew had gathered between the tiles and on the walls of the small bathroom. The fruity scent of spilled shampoo mingled with the antiseptic smell of detergent and the minty smell of toothpaste, its cap missing as the tube lay open atop the small medicine cabinet along with a small,half-empty bottle of aftershave.
In the living room, articles of clothing have been carelessly strewn about--- mismatched pairs of socks and several neckties, lay scattered on the floor, a leather jacket had been draped over one of the armchairs, facing the big, plasma television that had seen one too many DVDs of doramas and movies. The big cream-colored couch lying at the center of it all, looked inviting in its worn and nearly tattered state, having been sat and slept on for more times than it can remember...
In the corner of the small, cluttered apartment, a young man lay sleeping between the sheets of his large, queen-sized bed which occupied nearly half of the room. His rumpled, unkempt hair was madly strewn about his face, softening the strong and squarish jaw. Tendrils of his wavy locks lay invitingly on full lips, slightly parted as he exhaled in deep and even breaths. He slept on his side, with an arm and a leg draped over a big pillow, his long limbs nearly reaching the edge of the bed. Beside him slept a taller man whose slender frame was wrapped around the more muscular form of his companion. His small chin rested on his mate's sloping shoulders while long, thin arms encircled his waist. Both men lay peacefully entwined, their faces serene and angelic in their slumber as the minutes ticked by, giving way to the hours, leading them closer to the sunrise and another exhausting day of waking up to a hectic schedule of rehearsals, photo shoots and interviews.
