Matthew McConaughey at his best.
Great film - dark, intense and gripping, showing the corrupt side of the American justice system. It actually puts me off going into criminal law - not that I wanted to anyway. There's just too many flaws and downsides to even consider.
The film was never boring and was thrilling right until the last scene. I love the fact that Haller works from his Lincoln town car and has a loyal chauffeur to drive him to his next job. The script is excellent with some elements of dark humour. I didn't think much of Ryan Phillippe. I thought he played the rich playboy adequately but nothing spectacular. His transition in character was not really convincing - bit disappointed.
Matthew McConaughey was the best part of the film and you wonder why he has never done thrillers before. His performance was cool and polished - character development was well done. I think it's time for McConaughey to leave the dull romcoms behind and concentrate on more serious roles like this one.
