Hello everyone!
It's been a while since I really updated my journal. The last time I left you guys...was when my parents came to Belize. We hiked around the Cockscomb Jaguar Reserve....
Well, the rest of the vacation was spent visiting more places. Tuesday, we went drove back to belmopan. Met a couple of my belizean friends in the area. Then after some debating...we decided to drive to a place called Five Sisters Lodge in the Mountain Pine Ridge. There's a set of falls that I heard was really beautiful..so we set out to get there before night.
The road sucked!! unpaved, rocky, with no-signs-to-guide-us road. We made it, though, after asking a man on a bike and a farmer or two if we were going the right direction. I think it was only 23 miles from the hwy..and it took us like 2 hours to get there. Nevertheless, we were soooooo happy to reach our destination. And the view of the falls was beautiful. Supposedly, there are about 350 (and some change) in steps that lead to the falls...and my dad spent the time counting to see if it was true. :)
Then the next day (Wed)...we got our packed lunch of fried chicken and sandwiches and headed out to the ruins of Caracol. It's the tallest ruin site and the most hard to get to in Belize. So since we had a car....we couldn't pass up the chance to check it out!! It was awesome...but the drive was insane (dodging construction vehicles and dump trucks that were trying to fix the road)...and it was soo humid...we didnt' stay that long.
And we were on the road again...to get to the Western Hwy...back to Belmopan to rest.
Thursday...the day we had to return the car....and the day we were heading out to the cayes (islands). We decided to just relax this day.....since we were traveling soo much during the week. In relaxing...we didn't get the chance to go to the Belize zoo..but maybe they can check that out if they come back to Belize. :) Anyway...we returned the car to Crystal Rental. Talked to Millie the filipina who runs the place..and they dropped us off to the water taxi terminal. $35 Belize to get to Caye Caulker!! man, prices went up. :( In anycase... this was the last leg of our trip..and we were going there to relax. It was also Lobsterfest on Caye Caulker, which is bad news since we didnt' make reservations for a place before hand. We found a place..but it was kind of sketchy. ha. so the next day we moved to another place which had AC, a fan, cable tv, private bath and tiled floors (not that the tiled floors mattered...but it's a nice touch.) So instead of chilling outside that day to enjoy the sand, the blue sky, palm trees and clear water...I stayed inside and watched lots of TV!!!! I didnt' realize how much I miss TV till I started watching it again. We did spend some time on the beach...we took some pictures..but i have to still figure out how to upload time on here. (HELP ME! :)
Well, that was 2 weeks ago...the week after..I stayed in Belmopan and helped at my friend's church at their "Vacation Bible School". It was fun...kind of like a church day camp for kids 5-12. The kids were soo cute..and they learned about bible stories, got a snack and did crafts. :)
Then last week (the one that just past), I traveled down south to the Toledo District (5 hours on the express bus) to visit some Peace Corp friends in their villages. I spent a week down there. just came up today actually. GRUELING bus ride. Hum..but this entry is really long. I'm going to write about it next time.
hope you are all doing well.
let me know how you guys are doing, k?!
