Santa Monica & Malibu

Sep 02, 2014 14:59

The end of 3rd day in Los Angeles  we spent in Santa Monica and Malibu (Zuma beach). Recently at that day we've visited Griffin Observatory and Warner Bros. studio.

Santa Monica is a beachfront city in western Los Angeles County. I read, that there are a lot of British and Irish people living in SM. That's why the general impression was different from Los Angeles one. Santa Monica is more European, more secure, in order, even people's behavior is a little different. There are a lot of rich and respectful people here, Beverly Hills isn't far - it's contrasting to Venice. But first things first.

As we came here by car, we used State Route 2, which crosses urban West Hollywood, the wealthy areas of West Los Angeles, Westwood, Century City, and Beverly Hills.

. The city is named after the Christian saint, Monica.

The Santa Monica Looff Hippodrome (carousel) is a National Historic Landmark. It sits on the Santa Monica Pier, which was built in 1909. The La Monica Ballroom on the pier was once the largest ballroom in the US and the source for many New Year's Eve national network broadcasts. As you can see there is an aquapark on the pier as well.

Santa Monica beach.

State Route 1.

Well on this road there are always traffic jams.

Good time to go swimming in warm Pacific ocean.

Santa Monica looks like European city, just somewhere on the Spain coast.

Hi to Apple-lovers from SM!

Street dancing is splendid.

Sometimes I just forget, that I'm in the US. SM is an european city.

Then we headed north using famous State Route 1 up to Malibu, to the Zuma beach.

Here I am, there is Point Dume, actually we've wanted to go there, but as the highway in unfamiliar, we've pointed to Zuma beach.

But it looks amazing!

All right, it's late everning and we have to bring our rental car back to Los Angeles, sleep at the motel until 4 am., cause our bus to Las Vegas will leave at 6.
