Chapter 61:
Kazuya brought his microphone up again and then explained to the guests. “Sorry, my love here was perplexed as I did not tell him anything beforehand. But well, it was meant to be a surprise!” Kazuya laughed out, causing the guests to break out into comforting soft laughter. Jin still stood dumbly beside Kazuya, wearing a blank expression.
“This surprise here… is actually a song composition I wrote for Jin.” Kazuya clarified. He twisted his head to Jin who was now staring back at him in awe and muttering “for me” lowly, seemingly unable to accept this easy fact.
“Jin, do you remember that night on the island when you asked me what was ‘love’ to me?” Jin nodded mutely before Kazuya turned back to the guests.
“That night, we shared our perceptions on ‘love’ for the first time. After our talk that night, something seemed to have been enlightened within me. Something just… clicked. Something has always grown inconspicuously between us. It is a thing which no one will notice yet it is a very vital element in our relationship.” Kazuya elaborated further. “It’s ‘bond’. The bond between Jin and me.”
Astonished gasps and happy exclaims were heard simultaneously, coursing through the hall.
“Bond?” Kazuya heard Jin’s faint, astounded whisper from beside him.
He turned to face Jin fully without putting down his microphone. “Yes, Jin. Bond. Our unbreakable bond.”
“Because of this realization, the word ‘bond’ kept nagging at me in my mind and without me noticing, they became so much more. Therefore, I have penned down all my thoughts and love for you into this one and only special song, singing and humming for you forever.” Kazuya released a tiny, gentle smile.
“Kazu…” Jin murmured softly with tears rolling in his orbs, stubbornly refusing to slip down his cheeks.
“Just promise me that whatever that’s going to come about between us in the future, don’t ever step away from me again. Don’t ever leave me alone. I have already lost you once, and I certainly don’t like that piercing feeling. I can’t imagine what will become of me if I were to lose you one more time. So, Jin, stay by me forever.”
After a string of seemingly long awaiting hours ticking by which was actually just a few deafening seconds in reality, “I will. Always will.” Jin promised.
To be able to meet and to protect you, that was why I was born.
I will be with you, always be with you.
Kazuya smiled and rewarded Jin with one last hug before indicating for Keita to come up to the stage. “This song which I am dedicating to my special one is written by me and the melody is composed by Keita. And one thing I need to apologize to him for is despite my unreasonable demands during the process of recording this song; Keita still helped me a lot. Therefore, thank you very much, Kei! You know I am very grateful for everything you did for me.”
“You’re welcome. Always for you.” Keita replied and smiled while strolling towards the classical piano.
“Jin, please, take a seat now, make yourself comfy and listen to this song. The whole arrangement has already been recorded into a track. I will let you listen to the original version when I get hold of it. For now, Kei will play it for you using the piano here.” Kazuya whispered to Jin without the microphone. He walked back to the center of the stage and got ready for the stand-by.
He got the cue from Keita and began. “Please listen to it. Kizuna.” He inhaled a deep breath.
No matter how much we consider about the future,
No one can see the truth.
Is it a void? Something is blocking my heart.
It’s just a mistake that I have been repeating.
It is okay if it’s just one step at a time, just don't let go of my hand.
Even if we are torn apart,
the days we spent together still live till we are worn out.
That time, that place, this bond won't disappear.
In time that flows, I try not to lose anything.
Our true feelings passed and bumped against each other.
My heart is permeated with love for that person.
The miracle I requested for being able to meet them, came about by chance.
Even when things couldn’t stand still amidst the pain,
we're connected by the light we saw from it.
It's okay if you lied; it’s okay even if you cry,
that time, that place, this bond won't disappear.
It is okay if it’s just one step at a time, just don't let go of my hand.
Even if we are torn apart,
the days we spent together still live till we are worn out.
That time, that place, this bond won't disappear.
Everyone was too raptly mesmerized by the connotation of the lyrics and the escorted soothing melody that floated along from the piano that they forgot to applaud when the song had gradually came to a beautiful end. Hence when Keita had ended the song with the last prolonging ethereal key at last, Jin was the first to jump up steadily from his seat amidst the pack of silent audience and applauded loudly and proudly.
Tears were brimming busily in his orbs. Unsaid touched feelings were threatening to spill out. When he looked up touchingly at Kazuya on the stage, he knew Kazuya was right then.
Being alone, they might felt crushed. When there’s a resilient barrier that stood rigidly in front of them, they could always surmount it by stretching their hand to the other one. A ‘bond’ has really existed between them now.
‘Thank you.’
My special word for you.
I hope my ‘thank you’ will reach you.

Since that party, Jin had been working extremely hard to return Kazuya’s gift. He’s been trying to think of everything, anything to return his favor. However, he couldn’t think of anything. His mind was blank.
A posh car? For what? It’s redundant. He scratched that out.
How about a luxurious treat to restaurant? Jin contemplated it seriously. That sounded… normal. He made a blank face. He scratched that out too.
A special date out? Special… like how? He released a sigh. That wouldn’t work at all. It’s not enough at all. So what else?
Jin messed up his already unkempt hair.
Just then, the song ‘Kizuna’ played silently in his mind again.
Kizuna… Bond… Red string of destiny… red string of… wait.
Jin snapped his fingers loudly. “I got it!”
Bond!?
Now, what was the thing that represents bond? Jin thought hard. He remembered he heard from his father about a belief within Japan when he was young, that each individual is bonded to their destined lover, in other words, their soulmate by an invisible red thread that is tied to their pinky finger. That was known as the red string of fate.
“That’s it!” Jin exclaimed loudly. “I will get Kazu and me a pair of pinky rings and that means after wearing it, we will be connected by the red thread forever!” Jin mumbled excitedly to himself and did a silly nobody-knows dance in the middle of their bedroom.
“Jin, what happened to you?” Kazuya inquired curiously and suspiciously after stepping out from the bathroom, feeling fresh from a soothing bath. He totally didn’t expect to see his boyfriend getting cranky like this in the middle of nowhere while he was having his soothing bath.
“Oh!” Jin was like a deer caught in the red light. “Nothing, Kazu. You’re done with your bath?” Jin tried to change the direction of the topic discreetly in a calm manner.
“Hn.” Kazuya still eyed Jin suspiciously.
“Come over here, I will help you to dry your hair.” Jin flashed him a bright smile.
Kazuya walked over cautiously and sat down on the bed by the edge. He sighed contentedly when Jin massaged his scalp lightly and in the process, drying his hair with the fluffy towel. All thoughts left his mind. He felt very relaxed. A simple gesture like this that had happened between them could make Kazuya felt utterly blissful.

“Sir, your rings are ready. Please have a look.” A woman brought the pair of silver pinky rings out and showed it to Jin courteously.
Jin examined the small rings vigilantly before bringing the slightly bigger one to his left pinky finger and slipped it in. It fitted just perfectly on his pinky. His lips curled up into a dazed smile unconsciously. Then he picked up the other twin of the ring and looked at it, examining it thoroughly again.
“Perfect.”
“Sir, as you have requested for, the names are engraved in the inner surface of the rings. Do you want to verify it?”
Jin nodded and pulled out the ring from his left pinky. He twirled a bit and inspected the inner face of his ring carefully. There, he spotted it.
‘K. Kazuya’
Jin’s smile widened further and the woman who was attending to him, smiled cautiously too. So long the customer felt satisfied, she was safe. Then she picked up the supposedly Kazuya’s pinky ring and twirled it to show Jin the carving in it as well.
Jin took a careful look at it.
‘A. Jin’
He nodded his thanks and proceeded to let the woman cleaned up his rings one last time before packing it into the small, leather box.
“Thank you, Sir. Please come again.” The woman behind the counter thanked Jin graciously after he had paid for the rings.
“Thanks.” Jin bowed and grabbed the expensive-looking paper bag and sauntered out of the classy shop.
Inside the car, Jin placed the paper bag on the seat beside him and grinned happily. “Now that I have got what I needed, everything will be fine.”

He went back home to keep the box in a safe place before driving out again to fetch Kazuya from the office.
“How’s your day, love?” Jin pecked Kazuya on his right cheek the moment the smaller man entered and sat down heavily on the passenger seat beside him.
“As tired and busy as usual.” Kazuya made a face and pouted. “It’s boring.”
Jin used his left hand to pat on Kazuya’s head lovingly before playing with a few soft strands while his right hand continued to control the steering wheel.
“It’s alright now. I have decided to serve you dessert tonight after dinner. Treat it as a bonus then.” Jin smiled but focused his attention on the road.
Kazuya turned and beamed at Jin expectantly. “What is today’s dessert?”
Jin smirked at Kazuya before answering confidently. “You will have Jinjin for dessert tonight.”
Kazuya gaped at his boyfriend with his mouth open. “Jin! Don’t say that.”
“Why? You don’t like it?” Jin faked the hurt in his voice.
“No, I don’t! I like it! Just… don’t say it out so easily like this…” Kazuya muttered shyly.
“Oh… my love’s feeling shy ne?” Jin bantered. “Don’t worry, I guarantee that the dessert tonight will be to your liking.” He laughed out and caused a deeper shade of crimson to spread across Kazuya’s cheeks.

A few days later, Jin had finally managed to get a chance to spend a day at home without Kazuya as the latter was out of Tokyo to attend a business meeting. He would only be due home later that same night.
So Jin being an obedient lover, decided to stay at home, packed and cleaned the house and finally, settled at his table and took out the leather box.
He stared at the rings for a long time before grabbing a small piece of clean paper and started to scribble words on it.
After thinking and scratching his head on what to write, he beamed like a child who had gotten his candy when he had finally completed the scribbling. It might not mean a lot but those simple words should be able to clearly transmit his message to Kazuya lucidly.
He folded the paper and slotted it into the paper bag together with the leather box and smiled in contentment. He closed his eyes and fell back onto the soft cushion of the chair he’s sitting on.
Just then, multiple words flashed by in his mind and caused his smile to fade away.
‘I was carrying too many important things...’
He opened his eyes and thought back sadly. During the time when he broke off with Kazuya, he felt utmost desperate. He nearly choked himself to death if possible, for making that brainless and killing boner. What could have been more important than holding on to his precious love?
‘At some stage, everyone bring along sadness and weaknesses…’
He’s been through a lot and he definitely didn’t want to go through it all over again. So he promised himself that from now on, he would cherish Kazuya even more.
‘I will always be there to embrace you, whoever you may be.’
His eyes started to water slightly and he blinked a few times to prevent the eager tears from rolling down his cheeks. There was no more need for him to shed any tears for Kazuya was back to his side and no one could ever separate them again. As if acted on instinct, he grabbed a piece of paper and started jotting down the sentences that had flashed by in his mind earlier on.
He had a new aim to achieve. He too, wanted to write a dedication to Kazuya.
It’s their strong love for one another. Not through actions, but through words.
