Well today, I got up refreshed. 14 hours of sleep will do that for ya. I didn’t have much of a plan at this point but knew the area somewhat. I knew the area with the museums so I headed that way first. It’s across the river. There was a huge art museum called the Stadeal. I was in there for hours looking at everything from renaissance to modern. It was beautiful. I was also able to got several religious museums and saw some fantastic robes and artifacts. I was out all day. I had lunch at a 16th century villa. They had a beautiful café in the garden. I have to admit, it is kind of scary walking around everywhere when I don’t really know where I am going. Most of the signs are not in English so I just try to go with the flow. The people are pretty nice so far and the scenery is fantastic. It is intimidating but I am having a fantastic time. It really is one hell of an adventure.
I walked through one neighborhood that was strange. Everyone seemed a little rude. No one spoke to me and it was obvious that I was out of place. But the buildings were beautiful so I continued to explore the city. I have pretty much seen all of the city by foot so far.
There is an Irish pub around the corner from my hotel. I hit that place last night to have some beers and to get some dinner. It was nice. I am very home sick right now so being somewhere that was remotely familiar was very nice. Even the bar tender was from Ireland. The meal was great and I met a few people to talk to. Conversation has been fantastic. I am just so happy to talk to someone that speaks English. For the most part my time is spent silent (believe that or not) in contemplation. It has been nice to have some time alone.
One of the fellows I was talking to let me know why I was treated so differently in that certain neighborhood. Did you know that Frankfurt has a red light district? And that during the day, the lights aren’t on so there is no way to tell? And that the hookers in Frankfurt dress nice and look normal? So an American girl in a turtle neck, nice slacks, and nice boots just looks like a girl working your territory. I could have made enough money to pay for my trip. Who knew? Heheh So that was interesting little fact they leave out of the tourist info book. I will walk around the long way from now on.
