Christmas day was nice. They let us have a holiday. We were able to sleep in, which was awesome since I haven’t slept in for 8 months and I have been very tired lately. I slept in as late as my bladder would let me. It was nice. We all pretty much stayed to ourselves until after lunch when a couple friends of mine brought in the summer sausage and cheese kit they received for Christmas. We laid everything out on my floor and had a picnic. The food was great. Who knew summer sausage with honey mustard could be a Christmas feast? It was really nice. These two guys are probably my best friends here so it was nice to spend some of our Christmas day together. Then we watch all the silly Christmas specials that we used to watch as kids. We watched claymation until our eyes hurt :-) And you can’t go through Christmas without watching ‘It’s a wonderful life’ at least twice.
As with every Christmas, there always seems to be a fire. We had a mail trailer blow up. It was a back draft. You really don’t see a lot of those in real life (no matter what Kurt Russell says). The fire burned hot until it ran out of oxygen, then it smoldered until it burned out the back of the air conditioner. Then a rush of air filled the room and caused all of the unburned gasses to explode and scare the piss out of the marines standing nearby. They guys were all excited when we showed up and started with the ‘ no shit, we were just standing there!......
It didn’t take long to get the fire out. The explosion had taken care of most of it. It was an interesting call though. It always seems to work that way. We were up last night late on a fuel tank spill that seemed to take forever to get under control. Tis the season to run your butt off. It wouldn’t be so bad except it is in the 20s outside with a strong wind that makes it feel like -127 degrees. The weather in the country is crazy.
I am glad Christmas is over though. I leave to come home on the first and I can’t wait. It seems like I stay tired all day, don’t sleep well at night, and I have less and less patience with some of the buttholes that I have to deal with on a daily basis. I need a vacation. I need to see my family and friends! Not much longer to go.
