The Walkers

Yep, it happened on Thursday night here in the UK. We fondly and sadly said goodbye to the complicated, yet wonderful Walker family.

I laughed, I cried and I generally marvelled at how far these characters had come over 5 years. The final episode had everything you could really want in a series finale, and considering that they didn't officially know they'd been cancelled at the time of filming, that's saying something indeed. There was no cliffhanger, no angst-ridden ending. Instead we were allowed to enjoy the funny & touching scenes of Sarah's Wedding, before being left with the final image of the entire Walker-based clan all having fun in the middle of the dancefloor. As it faded to black, I was teary-eyed and sad, yet somehow still smiling. I think that's because that last image of them all, left me feeling like they're not really gone. That somewhere out there, the Walkers will carry on having ups and downs, dramas and family fights, it's just that we won't get to witness them anymore.

Somehow that's strangely comforting.

So here's to the cast, who brought these interesting people to life, who made it easy to fall in love with this family every season and who made us all want to be a Walker!
