Joan who?

EVERYONE strongly disliked The Year of Magical Thinking.  Except the reviewers, and we have decided that the literary world must indeed be a tightly closed circle for them all to give it such high reviews.  Besides the majorly depressing subject matter, no one liked the style of the writing, the self-centeredness, or especially the namedropping.  At the end of the evening most of the members left their copies behind, as no one could think of anyone they would ever recommend it to or want to lend it to.  I believe had Maeve had a wood-burning fireplace rather than gas we would have had a bonfire of the vanity.  It is being made into a Broadway show -- yikes.

Decided that as the book was so depressing, comfort food was necessary, and so it was chocolate cake infused with berry vodka, creme de cacao and Chambord mixed into raspberry Jello.  Yum.  Not necessarily breakfast cake!
