Still learning my way through Second Life.  I had to download a new graphics driver b/c mine couldn't handle some of it; looks like I am running pretty well now.
wesleyjenntells me that SL is very controversial b/c people are making real money from the game and the government can't figure out how to tax it.  Sweet.  She wants to know, what is the point of SL -- there is no goal, like fighting the enemy, etc.  I haven't been there long enough to see if there is any goal other than to have a virtual life in another dimension -- so far I haven't bought anything b/c I have no Linden money, but I am amassing a great wardrobe that I can make for myself, and someone gave me a rocket pack!  NO idea what I am supposed to do with it yet, but when was the last time in your regular life that you had your own rocket pack?  And some of the graphics are pretty cool -- I was dancing at a virtual disco, with a guy who was playing from Germany.

For me this is living a story from a SF novel -- can't think of titles right now but it has been the premise of so many -- usually either getting stuck in one, or whatever.  That's not possible here (yet) but there are so many advances yet to be made -- I'm sure we can be wired so that we can feel what is going on through our AV, and eventually directly brain to site -- that's when it gets to the idea of uploading your consciousness when you die, so you can live on in a virtual world that has no limits to amount of space, or worry about natural resources (other than someone shutting down the server!)  It's the Matrix , without the machines taking over yet -- I just find it very intriguing.

Italian lesson here tonight so I don't eat early, drive 35 minutes and get lost, or hold off on my full wine allotment until after I get back.  The others have all started offering coffee, tea, etc., so now I will have to do that -- I'll have to find out whether they want regular coffee or decaf.  I deliberately DIDN'T serve anything at the first class at my house, so as not to set a precedent.  Oh well.  So much for making it easier on anyone!

Dinner last night:  My "pork chops parmesan" (my own recipe) which I made with pork tenderloin instead, as I have a good number of them in the freezer and have to use them up.  Wine was a 2001 Rocca dei Mori Salice Salentino.  These are drinking much better than the chiantis that are out right now.   Really enjoyed it.
