What a nice, long, lovely post! I'm happy you got to see some good people and have good food and see good plays! I'm kind of jealous; I haven't traveled in a while and I'm feeling the urge to roadtrip rising a bit. Your photos let me live vicariously through you, both here and on twitter :)

Regarding working out, I have a bit of experience in that field, and am actually working out right now to lose some pudge and get stronger. We can be (sorta) workout buddies! First off, I'm not going to recommend a brand of shoe to you specifically as the best kind you can buy, but you need to make sure it's closed-toe. Gyms will NOT let you work out on their machinery if your toes are getting some fresh air, so make sure you get a pair of sneakers that are comfortable for you to wear, and have good arch support (if you have regular feet) or orthotics (if you're like me and have flat-feet). Some good brands are Nike, Ecco, New Balance, and Abeo, to name a few.

Second, perhaps a personal trainer might be something good for you, if you can afford it. Most gyms offer one free personal trainer session, and you can discuss nutrition, what you want your fitness to eventually become (like general stuff, dead-lifting, running, etc), and where your physical problems are (like old injuries) with that person.

Third, walk! Just walking is great exercise. Walk half an hour a day if you can manage it; it doesn't have to be all at once. It's good for your mood too, and for getting up and moving that blood around. Sitting too long can be bad for you. If you can manage it, figure out if you can make a standing desk for yourself. Just standing can burn so many more calories than sitting.

Dietary tips…well, I've got none, because I don't know what you eat. Those are my workout two cents, and I hope it proves useful for you. The soreness is weakness leaving your body, RARRRRR!!!

(that's what I'm telling me, anyway)

Hah, I'm glad you think so! I was fairly certain people would take a long at how long it is and say, "Well FUCK THAT." XD

It was all in all an excellent lift decision. Traveling is the best, I wish I could do it more often. But I'm lucky to have a city like New York just a short bus ride away.

Yeah, the plan is to get closed toe shoes for this. The gym I'm going to be using is a small university gym on the satellite campus I work on (because I can sneak in for free \o/), so there's no one there monitoring if I'm wearing correct shoes, but I definitely don't want to be worrying I'll lose a toe the whole time.

I definitely can't afford a personal trainer. Haha, looking at these prices I can't even afford workout shoes. XD Luckily, I don't plan to do anything too intense. And I already do a lot of walking, just by virtue of the fact that I don't drive.

Looool, dietary tips. Nooope. I am not changing my eating habits. I'll do a little physical activity, but I will agree to eat healthy food over my dead body. XD

Thanks so much for all the info! I will certainly keep it in mind.
