So I've decided that since I'm hooked on to music every single day of my life and consider it a necessity next to water, food, books and the internet, I really should share the wealth with everyone.
For those of you who don't already know, I have an...interesting taste in music. I say "interesting" because I can't really pinpoint one or even a few genres of music that I like. Whatever speaks to me, whether it's musically or lyrically, I consider to be good music. I think the subjectivity of music is what makes is great, because there's something for everybody.
Anyway, so I've decided to dedicate Sundays to my own music posts, where I give you a list of 5 songs that I particularly listen to a lot or have some special meaning for me for the past week. It could be anything from Top 40 to film scores to musical pieces to classical to country to K-Pop to really anything at all. It's another way for me to connect with you all and share a very personal and important part of me.
This week:
1. "Goodbye" - 소녀시대

SNSD's new mini-album recently came out, and I was really excited for the title track "Mr.Mr." just because of how great the teaser sounded and looked. Ofc, in true SM fashion, the actual track ended up being different from what I expected from the teaser. I was a bit disappointed, but then I found this gem in the mini-album. It's refreshing to hear the lower registers of the girls; they sound great, and the song has a great retro vibe to it. Definitely my favorite song from the mini-album (though from watching the comeback performances, I've also warmed up to "Mr. Mr.").
2. "Colorblind" - Counting Crows

This one's a throwback to the late 1990's. I first heard this song as part of the movie Cruel Intentions with Reese Witherspoon, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. It's an excellent film, and this song fits perfectly into the mood of the film. A friend of mine recently played this song as we were hanging out, and it just brought back my love for both the film and the song.
3. "Brokenhearted" (Cover) - Jeremy Passion & Tori Kelly

Ask any of my best friends and they will tell you that I have a very high standard when it comes to a lot of things, but especially song covers. I just think that originals are perfect the way they are, so it's really difficult to do a song justice with a cover. Everything in the cosmos has to be aligned for a great cover to happen, and this is one such case. Both Jeremy Passion and Tori Kelly are excellent artists individually to begin with, and their voices blend very well together. Their R&B style also keeps the original style of the song, but their use of simple acoustics add a fresh and appealing take to the song.
4. "너여야" - Neon Bunny

I'm so excited for Neon Bunny's comeback! She's a great Korean artist and songwriter, and I'm glad her skills remain strong in this new song. I loved her first album Seoulight, in which she used a lot of synths; gave me a semi-80's vibe while still being very modern. This new song is also cool and relaxing, something I would listen to with friends in a chic lounge.
5. "I Can't Make You Love Me/Nick of Time" - Bon Iver

Speaking of great song covers, here's another one. I think Bon Iver's tone is arguably an acquired taste, but I think in this instance, the fragile quality of his voice really makes the song instead of breaking it. You can really feel the vulnerability of the lyrics in the song with every note he sings. Adele's version of this song used to be my favorite, but ever since I heard Bon Iver's cover, I've switched over.
