I just finished reading this wonderful piece of work and I'm... so emotional right now? Like, I want to cry but also laugh with joy and happiness?
So first of all, thank you for taking up this prompt. I love reading sports!au and being a football fan, reading this au was even better. What I loved was the build-up and how we live with Jongdae, the arrogant, supremely confident football player. His perspective as a player is amazing. More than that though, I really love the excitement you built when describing the matches. I literally felt like I was watching an intense match being played in front of me, with all the excitement, tension and raging emotions of a tense football game. There's nothing quite like it and the fan in me was going crazy with every word, every scene you described.
Also, fuck yeah Bayren Munich! I'm a Red Devil (mostly) but seriously, Bayren has some of the best players, one of the strongest teams the world has seen (okay, I'm also heavily Germany biased when it comes to international teams :P) but seriously. It was so much fun reading some legendary names thrown about casually, like they were acquaintances and what not? absolutely loved it. Also, Ollie being names after Oliver Kahn because of his temperament is like the cutest thing ever :D I totally loved it.
Apart from the details to the game, I absolutely loved the journey from arrogant, cocky Kim Jongdae who suffered injuries and lost himself to the mature, stronger and even surer of himself Kim Jongdae. You managed to convey the emotions so beautifully every step of the way - I felt his joy on scoring the best goals, his happiness of realizing his dreams, his despair at losing his skills, at not being able to play... his growing feelings for Sehun. It was all so beautifully woven in the narrative, I feel like I doing a marathon of Goal, that's how emotional I am right now TuT
I have just one query - I wasn't only reading into Baekhyun's interest in Jongdae, was I? 'cause it felt to me way more than just platonic? (Could be my BaekChen feels overwhelming me :D). Loved all the characters, especially Jongdae and Sehun. But also, the cameos by Luhan were very vivid, he left an impact and Jongin... don't get me started on Jongin, aggressive striker/confident player D: it was all too much, my heart feels so full right now? I think I'm gonna take up following seasons again because reading this made me realize I actually miss it *sniffs* thank you for writing such a beautiful piece. Great work <3
