Summary: Jongdae doesn't understand girls. Dr Horvejkul makes him understand, in a way that he never imagines it to be.
“Well, hello Jongdae. It’s very nice of you to actually show up today. I thought you can’t find your way here” the girl with short blond hair glared at Jongdae as the guy made his way to the bench in the skatepark. Jongdae could totally sense the sarcasm in the girl’s voice but he ignored it, flashing a blinding smile which made the end of his lips curl upwards like a feline.
“Sorry that I’m late. Baekhyun and Chanyeol dragged me to the library earlier because our assignment is due tomorrow and then I went to Yifan’s house and-“ Jongdae shut up upon seeing the look Amber gave him. “I’m sorry” he blurted, brows furrowed.
“Do you even remember what day it is today?” Amber was crossing her arms, eyes throwing daggers at her boyfriend. Jongdae smiled. He knew what day it was.
“I know! It’s your birthday,Happy Birthday, Amber!” Jongdae told the girl, leaning into her personal space. He wanted to plant a kiss on her cheek but the girl pushed him away with her index finger.
“You didn’t wish me last night. I wanted you to be the first person who wishes me Happy Birthday” Amber uttered, lips pursed into thin lines dejectedly. “Looks like you forgot to bring me presents too” the girl added, glancing at Jongdae’s empty hands.
Jongdae’s eyes widened. “Oh shit, I left it home. I’m sorry, Amber. I did prepare your birthday present, I swear. Minah even wrapped it for me”-Amber shot him another glare-“But I forgot to bring it. Sorry, I’ll just run back home and-“ Jongdae looked down to see Amber holding his hand.
“It’s okay, Jongdae” Amber said, her face softened a bit. Jongdae lit up at the small smile adorning her face.
“Do you forgive me?” Jongdae asked, eyes shining with hope. Amber nodded and Jongdae smiled wider.
“But-“ Jongdae’s face fell. “But I don’t think I can do this anymore” the girl looked away, throwing her view towards a bunch of kids who were skating on the nearby ramp.
“No! Amber, I like you. You’re cool and…and I like you” Jongdae confessed. A soft sigh escaped Amber’s lips.
“Look, Jongdae. You’re nice and I like you despite of you treating me like guys sometimes. Skateparks are nice for dates” Amber looked around before locking her gaze with Jongdae’s. “But I would like to have dates at coffee shops and maybe watch movies with you too”
“We can do that. Next time I’ll take you to the movies”Jongdae replied in a millisecond. His lips curled downwards when Amber shook her head.
“Treating me like guys is one thing, but the entire bros before hoes is another thing”
Jongdae raised his eyebrows. “What?”
“I know every guy do that but you do it every time. Every single time. Even during our dates you’ll leave me if one of your so-called bros calls you. I was okay at first but…I’m a girl too okay? I do have feelings” Amber pulled her hand away, patting Jongdae’s shoulder lightly. “And we’re still young. It’s not like we’re that serious, right?”
Jongdae nodded, not knowing what to say to the girl.
Amber’s lips stretched into a small smile as she stood before Jongdae, fixing her hair. A few drops of rain fell and the girl instinctively looked up at the sky.
“It’s raining” Amber said as Jongdae looked up, palm outstretched. “I’ll go first. Good bye Jongdae, don’t call me”
Jongdae stayed silent, watching Amber waving at him before turning back, walking away from him. He then let out an exasperated sigh, watching the kids skateboarding on the ramp. It was when a thunder roared some while later that Jongdae stood, finally making his way home.
“I’m home” Jongdae muttered as he opened the door but he was thrown aback as he was greeted by his own sister standing behind the door.
“Welcome home, Oppa!” Minah greeted him at the door, face somewhat pale. Jongdae frowned handsomely, wondering what was his sister doing, welcoming him that warmly? Did she accidentally burn his manga again like the last time? (Jongdae was hundred percent sure she did it on purpose).
“What are you-Oh” Jongdae’s face shone in acknowledgement as he recalled that Minah asked him to buy something earlier, mouth forming an ‘O’. Minah’s expression darkened.
“You forgot, don’t you?” the girl shot him a look before turning away to the stairs. Jongdae followed the girl, apology was already on the tip of his tongue. “Take off your shoes”, the girl ordered without looking back and Jongdae looked down at his feet to see his damp sneakers. He then ran back to the door, taking off his shoes before standing them on the shoe cupboard so that they could dry off.
Running back to the stairs, he called out his sister’s name, apology was written on his face. “Minah-yah! Minah, Oppa is so sorry” he entered the girl’s room, sitting on the bed beside the girl.
“What’s your reason this time? Is it Yifan or is it your infamous forgetfulness?” Minah questioned, lying on her bed. Her face was still pale and Jongdae bit his lip, feeling bad for her.
“It’s both. Oh, Amber too. We broke up just now” Jongdae told the girl, showing her his kicked puppy expression. That seemed to gain Minah’s sympathy as her expression softened, one hand reaching up to pat Jongdae’s shoulder.
“I’m sorry to hear that but you’re a jerk so that serves you right” Minah stated, smirking. Jongdae narrowed his eyes at the girl, flicking her forehead.
“Hey, don’t be rude to your oppa” Jongdae told her, massaging the reddened forehead when Minah pouted.
“Where is Jongdeok oppa when I need him?” Minah whined, shooting Jongdae a betrayed look.
“Hey, don’t say like you only have one brother. What am I then?” Jongdae argued, glaring at his sister.
“Oh? Do I have two brothers? Sorry, I forgot that you’re also my brother” Minah replied sarcastically, eyebrows lifted challengingly. Jongdae made no effort to argue with the girl.
“If you are really my brother then start to act like one and buy me pain relief like I asked you to earlier. I have cramps” Minah closed her eyes, making her looked like she was really in pain. Jongdae glanced at her limbs, eyeing them closely.
“They look fine to me” Jongdae poked her right leg, proving his point.
Minah tried to roll her eyes but failed to do so. “Not there. I have my period, idiot. Go buy me pain relief, now” Minah muttered through gritted teeth. Jongdae stood reluctantly, hitting her head before turning for the door.
“My sister is starting to disrespect me now that she’s all grown up” Jongdae remarked.
“My brother is starting to disregard me now that I've grown up” Minah uttered a comeback, smiling satisfiedly.
Jongdae looked back to shot the girl a look. “Touché”
Minah rolled her eyes at him.
“Kim Jongdae, get down this instant and see the mess you’ve done!! How many times do I have to tell you to take off your shoes before entering the house??” Mrs Kim’s voice howled from downstairs.
Oh shit.
Jongdae ran downstairs, ignoring the annoying laughter coming from his sister’s room while doubting whether she’s really having a cramp or was she trying to abuse him.
“I don’t understand. I mean, she dressed up like a boy but she wants me to treat him like a girl. It’s confusing. If she wants to be treated like a girl, then why doesn’t she wear girls’ clothes?” Jongdae looked at the handsome man before him as he finished retelling his stories, pulling his knees closed to his chest despite being on a long couch.
“Hey, answer me. My friend told me that you’re a great counselor…psychologist or whatever and that’s why I come to you despite your…weird taste in interior design” he added, eyes roaming about the room. The room was spacious but it was decorated…rather weirdly. The wallpaper was black and it somehow made him feel somewhat eerie. There were a few pot plants in the room but what freaked him out were the bamboo plants planted in the corner of the room. He wasn’t sure whether they were real or not. At the back of the room there stood some nameplates on a table with candles. The candles were lighted.
“I would like to ask, out of curiosity…” Dr Horvejkul trailed off, pushing his red glasses up his nose bridge. Jongdae turned to look at the man, noticing the strange aura the stranger was emitting. Even the doctor was giving him goosebumps. He was just so eerily handsome and he didn’t look or sound like a Korean. His name was weird too. Nichkhun Horvejkul. Jongdae wondered how Chanyeol knew this Horvejkul guy. “Are you gay?” he finished his sentence and Jongdae choked on his own saliva.
“Wh-What?” Jongdae stuttered.
The man smiled and Jongdae shot the guy a nervous look. “Well, why would you date a tomboyish girl and treat him like a guy if you aren’t gay?” the weird man wondered out loud and the question silenced Jongdae as he leaned back on the couch, staring at the white ceiling. He thought of the question, letting it sank in his mind when he was brought back to the reality by his initial attention of visiting the man.
“Wait, I come here to seek advices on how to understand girls, not figuring out my sexuality” Jongdae pointed out, sitting up straight.
A somewhat mysterious smile appeared on the man’s lips. “That, I could manage. Just give me some time, and you’ll find your own light” he uttered with that knowing glance. Jongdae cocked an eyebrow.
“What do you mean by that? Do I have to come back here?” Jongdae asked as the man walked towards the creepy table full of nameplates at the back. He then grabbed a few things before turning around with a paper in his hand.
“Fill this form” the man ordered, pulling a pan out of his pocket. Jongdae took the form from the man, eyeing the piece of paper carefully.
“What do you need my zodiac sign for?” Jongdae inquired, raising his eyebrows. “I don’t think my blood type is relevant for you” he added, scanning the form suspiciously.
“Those things are indeed relevant for me, Mr Kim. Are you doubting my ability despite being a qualified psychologist with a doctorate title?” the man uttered smugly with a challenging look in his eyes. He then leaned back to his chair comfortably. Jongdae gave up on threatening the guy with his glaring attempts, laying the paper on the table before them. He then shot the man another look before crouching before the table, filling out his details.
“Good luck, Mr Kim. May the odds will always be in your favor” they shook hands before Jongdae left the room and the speech made him dumbfounded, staring at the tinted windows of the office as he was walking out of the building.
Dr Horvejkul might seem like a normal psychologist but he sure didn’t act like one.
It was hot that night. Jongdae woke up with a start as he found himself sweating, skin burned as though being on fire. His whole body was stinging and he cried as he suffered in his agony. Tears were prickling in his eyes while he brought his hands up to his head, feeling like pulling every strand of his hair off his scalp. His skin was tingling, twitching in pain and the feeling intensified every second.
Jongdae closed his eyes, soft moans escaped his pink lips as the torture doubled. He felt like dying, the way his whole body hurt, he can’t even lift his own finger anymore. He rolled on the bed, feeling the heat washed through his body after some point he just couldn’t take it and passed out.
Jongdae woke up an hour later, feeling beads of sweats all over his forehead. It was still dark so Jongdae scooted to his left, reaching his phone on the nightstand with much effort as his whole body was numb from pain. It was five in the morning and Jongdae groaned at the numerical figure on his phone screen.
He then froze upon hearing his own voice. It somehow sounded a bit different, more high-pitched than usual. Jongdae sat up on his bed, recalling the dream he had earlier. Was it really a dream? It felt so real, Jongdae thought, feeling his own skin by running his hand on his face. He thought he was dying, the pain was so intense he was so sure that he was going to die.
Maybe he was just having a nightmare, Jongdae thought, nodding. Jongdae decided to wash his face, so he stood on his feet but fell abruptly on his bum. Something jiggled on his front and Jongdae could feel blood drained from his face as he took a peek into his shirt.
Boobs.
Jongdae’s eyes enlarged in shock.
He has boobs.
A soft chuckle escaped his lips as he looked at the ceiling, facepalming at his own ridiculous imagination. He must be seriously sexually deprived to be having ridiculous thoughts like that. But Jongdae pushed a hand passed his waistband just to make sure.
No.
Jongdae dragged himself to the bathroom despite his legs still being numb from before. He then quickly stripped off his clothes and let out a cry at the unknown body. He had boobs, a slim waist which many girls envy, and when did his hips get this wide? Jongdae then took a peek in between his legs and wailed.
Where’s his junk???
Once he felt his feet, he approached the sink carefully, staring right into the mirror. Jongdae stared at his face, noticing the sharp features has softened, making him looked more feminine. His hair had grown past his chest and Jongdae held the soft strands in his hand, scowling at his own hair. He then looked back at his own reflection, eyeing himself. His face was still recognizable and he still looked like Kim Jongdae but a girl’s version of himself. Tears threatened to fall from the corner of his eyes but Jongdae held them back, biting his bottom lip.
He then ran back to his room, rummaging his closet for proper clothes. He needed to get out of the house before somebody else saw his change. He put on a loose sweater, a pair of pants which thankfully fitted his big ass and put on a snapback as a safety measure. He put his long hair under the snapback so that people can’t see his hair, grabbed his phone before exited the house.
It was just six in the morning and the cold was killing him. Jongdae sat on a bench in the nearby park, hugging himself as he dialed Yifan’s number for the third time.
“Hello?” a husky voice came from the other line. Jongdae thanked the gods for waking his best friend up early in the morning. For Yifan, sleep is very important so the guy usually sleep eight hours a day, ten on the weekends. It was Saturday so it was a miracle that Yifan would be up that early that day.
“Yifan…” Jongdae called out his best friend’s name, not knowing on what to tell the guy.
“Um, excuse me but who are you? Why are you calling from Jongdae’s number?” Yifan inquired and Jongdae felt like crying that his own best friend didn’t recognize his voice.
“Yifan, it’s me, Jongdae”
It was silent for some time before Yifan hummed into the speaker, indicating that the guy was in a deep thinking. “Are you perhaps Minah? Minah-yah, don’t do this kind of joke. Oppa is sleepy right now”
Jongdae snorted. “I said I am Jongdae. Kim Jongdae. Why won’t you believe me?”
Yifan didn’t reply.
“Yifan?”
“…”
“Okay, fine. I’ll break into your house then. Bye” Jongdae uttered, feeling annoyed. He hung the call, putting his phone inside his pocket. The cold wind blew past him and he snorted instinctively as he felt his own nose running.
“Sheesh, I hate runny nose” Jongdae muttered to himself, wiping his nose with his sleeve as he made his way to Yifan’s house.
Jongdae was pondering on ways to enter Yifan’s house when he saw the tall guy standing outside, hands in his pockets. Yifan glanced to look at him as he approached the guy and the blonde narrowed his eyes.
“You are Jongdae. But why did your voice sounded like girls’?” Yifan inquired, leading Jongdae into his house. Jongdae left the question unanswered, tip-toeing past the living room as he tried not to wake Mrs Wu. They soon reached Yifan’s room which was located on the second floor and Jongdae closed the door once they were both inside, locking it as a safety measure.
Jongdae stood before Yifan, pulling his snapback off so that his long hair would fall freely on his sides. Yifan gaped at his hair, watching them in amazement as he held the honey locks in his hands.
“Wow, how do you grow your hair this fast?” Yifan wondered, running his fingers through the honey colored hair.
Jongdae deadpanned. “They grew this long overnight” he told the guy, staring blankly at Yifan.
“Your voice…”
“I woke up this morning to a girl’s body” Jongdae muttered, sitting on Yifan’s bed. Yifan stared back at him, sitting beside him.
“Do you really change into a girl? I mean, you do sound like a girl but you look the same except that your hair is longer and much nicer” Yifan blurted out. Jongdae sighed softly, taking Yifan’s hands to his chest, letting the hands roamed on his new body.
“Do you believe me now? I would strip in front of you but that would be highly immoral considering the fact that I’m not a boy anymore” Jongdae uttered with a soft chuckle as he saw pink blush adorning his best friend’s cheeks.
“Well um, what are you going to do?” Yifan asked, avoiding his gaze. Jongdae laughed, covering his mouth with his hand.
“Are you being shy right now? I’m still your best friend okay, so stop having weird thoughts” Jongdae warned, crossing his arms. They were silent for quite some time until Jongdae broke the silence with his hiss, hands on his tummy. “My stomach hurts. I’ll go to the toilet” Jongdae rushed to the bathroom, already knowing the plan of the house like the back of his hand.
Jongdae locked the door before pulling his pants down and sat on the toilet bowl. His eyes then caught a spot on his boxer and he crouched, pulling off his boxer to look at the spot properly.
“Yifan, I’m bleeding!!!” he shouted, noticing that the spot was indeed blood. His own blood.
“What?” Yifan asked through the door. Jongdae’s eyes were fixed on his boxer, his hands trembling. Why was he bleeding…down there? Jongdae quickly put on his pants, rushing to the door.
“Look, there’s blood on my boxer” Jongdae shoved his boxer under Yifan’s nose and his best friend scrunched it in distaste.
“Eww, keep it off me! Gross” Yifan remarked, shoulders shuddering. A look of acknowledgement flashed on his face as realization hit him. “Are you perhaps having your first period, Jongdae?”
“Come on Minah, tell me what you do when you have your periods”
Jongdae could hear sound of his sister snorting from the speaker but he ignored the feeling to tell her off.
“And why should I tell you that?” Minah’s voice was provocative and Jongdae was glad that his sister wasn’t with him or else he would have thrown her off the window by then. “You went missing early in the morning, Mom was so worried, you know. Where did you go?”
“I am at Yifan’s”
“What are you doing at Yifan oppa’s house early in the morning? Did you steal Mom’s money again?”
He could hear the sarcasm in his sister’s voice.
“I did not steal the money. It was not me” Jongdae argued, voice raising a few octaves. He then glanced up to look at Yifan who just entered the room, holding something in his hand.
“I took this from my Mom’s room” Yifan’s voice was low, almost like a whisper. Jongdae hung up on Minah without goodbyes, eyes focused on the small packet in the blonde’s hand. Yifan sat beside him, handing him the thing.
“Are you sure this is the thing?” Jongdae asked the guy, inspecting the packet curiously.
Yifan shrugged. “I guess so. Hold on” the taller guy approached closer, turning Jongdae around before tying Jongdae’s hair up. “I found this hair band and I thought that maybe you need one and took it”
Jongdae turned back to face Yifan and he stilled, staring at the guy dazedly.
“What?” Yifan asked, touching his face. Jongdae felt his cheeks warmed.
“Nothing. It’s just that…you look kind of different” Jongdae confessed, looking away. Yifan frowned handsomely, his eyebrows arching.
“Why? Do I have something on my face?” Yifan asked again, standing to take a look at himself in the mirror.
“Um, no. You just look…handsome” Jongdae whispered, hoping that Yifan didn’t hear him. He then went to the bathroom hastily, locked himself in it. Taking a deep breath, he then took off his pants only to shout again at the sight of blood.
“Yifan, I can’t do this” Jongdae wailed, sitting on the floor, face in his hands. The blood stained pants were lying on the other side of the floor as he closed his eyes, not wanting to look at the piece of cloth.
“Yes you can. Have some faith, Jongdae. Fighting!”Yifan shouted from the door, giving him some encouragement. Jongdae shook his head, tears were already pooling in his eyes.
“No, I can’t. Yifan, help me!” Jongdae cried, crawling to the door. It was closed and he couldn’t see his friend but Jongdae leaned on it, listening to Yifan’s movement on the other side of the door.
“Yifan, are you okay? Why are you locking your door, dear?” Mrs Wu’s voice rang from outside and Jongdae froze, biting on his bottom lip.
No, no, no don’t let her inside, Jongdae said in his head, hoping that Yifan would get it through telepathy.
“I’m sorry, Jongdae” Yifan whispered and Jongdae stilled as the bedroom door was pushed open. A few moments later Jongdae was standing in the bathroom awkwardly as Mrs Wu taught him how to put on the pad and patting his back encouragingly when he cried as the blood trickled down his thighs.
He won’t forgive Yifan for letting Mrs Wu inside and making Jongdae having the most embarrassing moment of his life.
They were silent the whole time saved from the sounds of cutlery against the glassware. Jongdae was blushing the whole time, his hair was tied but warmth spread through his face and neck as the incident in the bathroom before replayed in his mind. Yifan was focused on his plate, not lifting his eyes even for a second. Mrs Wu seemed like the only comfortable one there, chewing happily while observing his son and his best friend.
“Don’t be shy, Jongdae. It is important that you seek for woman’s help in times like these. Not that you can avoided it, can’t you? Oh, I’ve always wanted a daughter, you know” Mrs Wu said dreamily, staring at nothing in particular as her eyes went unfocused. Yifan looked hurt at the statement, letting out a small whimper. Jongdae smirked at his side.
“Aww, don’t be sad, baby. You’re still my boy. But I have to admit that I prefer a girl” Mrs Wu added, chuckling. Jongdae didn’t know how to react to such situation so he just stuffed his mouth with food so that he won’t have to say anything.
“You aren’t wearing a bra right now, are you Jongdae?” Yifan choked on his breakfast at his mother’s question, falling into a coughing fit.
Why are Mothers so embarrassing? Jongdae thought, his face reddened as he shook his head. He took a glance at Yifan who was equally red in the face. Oh this is so, so awkward.
“Then should we go shopping after this, dear? I’m so excited just by the thought of shopping with my daughter!”
Yifan was once again slumping in his chair miserably now that his mother is excited with Jongdae’s transformation so Jongdae cleared his throat, smiling at the middle age woman.
“It’s okay, Mrs Wu. I think I can just borrow Minah’s clothes. This can’t last long, right? I don’t want to die as a girl” Jongdae muttered, pouting. The woman stared at him, giving him no reply.
After breakfast Jongdae and Yifan went back to the latter’s room as Jongdae told Yifan all about that Dr Horvejkul he met the day before. He didn’t miss out any details, including the weird design of the man’s office.
“So, are you saying that he might be the cause of all these?” Yifan asked, once Jongdae was finished with his story. Jongdae shrugged, staring at Yifan intently. ”What are you going to do now?” Yifan asked again, staring back at Jongdae seriously.
Jongdae smiled at the question. “Can we go to the convenience store? I feel like eating some chocolates” he told Yifan who looked at him incredulously.
“Can you buy me this too?” Jongdae showed Yifan a pint of cookies n cream ice cream, his puppy eyes were back on his face. Yifan blinked his eyes confusedly, staring at the basket beside his feet which was filled with bars of chocolates.
“Hold on, am I the one who’s paying?” the tall blonde asked, eyes wide. Jongdae just smiled with the end of his lips curling cutely, leaving Yifan utterly speechless.
The pair then walked to the park he went to that morning after they were done with shopping.Jongdae skipped happily, his ponytail swinging behind him. Only the tips of his fingers were showing from his long sleeves, the oversize sweater which belongs to Yifan looked far too huge for him. Jongdae then sat on the vacated swings, waving his hand excitedly, asking Yifan to sit on the swing beside him. Yifan sighed softly, carrying the plastic bag from the convenience store with his right hand.
Jongdae quickly grabbed a bar of chocolate as soon as his best friend put the bag on the ground, tearing on the wrapping before biting on the chocolate happily. Yifan stared at Jongdae, watching his best friend eating as though chocolate is a staple food.
“I thought you don’t eat chocolates?” Yifan asked, pulling out the ice cream from the bag. “Shouldn’t we eat this first? It’s going to melt soon” he added as Jongdae glanced at him, staring at the ice cream in his hands.
“We don’t have spoons” Jongdae stated, still staring at the ice cream. “Go get some spoons from your house” the shorter ordered, looking at Yifan pointedly.
“But-“
“Your house is just a few steps from here, stop being a lazy ass” Jongdae pointed out, throwing Yifan a look. The blonde sighed before standing, eyes staring at Jongdae imploringly. Jongdae ignored the stare, focusing on finishing his chocolates. He was a messy eater so Jongdae poked out his tongue, licking his lips.He didn’t think that such act of licking was in some way provocative since Yifan is used to see him do that all the time. But this time it was different because Jongdae’s lips were fuller, much pinker than before his transformation. So Yifan leaned down to lick those lips with his own tongue, making red tint adorning Jongdae’s face to the tips of his ears.
“I was just helping you wiping off the stains on your lips” Yifan said, watching Jongdae’s mortified expression amusedly. “Oh, you got something here” he then pointed to the corner of Jongdae’s lips. He leaned down once more just before Jongdae’s hand reached the feline like lips, kissing the curl of Jongdae’s lips before shifting to kiss on the latter fully on the lips. Jongdae wasn’t reacting to the kiss at first, staying still like a statue but a few moments passed before his small fingers reached up to hold onto Yifan’s shirt tightly, pulling the blonde closer. Yifan smiled into the kiss, pressing his lips harder onto Jongdae’s feline like one.
They pulled off after a while, gasping as they tried to catch some air. Jongdae’s lips were red, pretty shade of red which made him looks sexier. Yifan grinned with satisfaction. He was glad that he was the one who made Jongdae looked like that.
“So do you still want me to grab the spoon or do you want to continue where we left off?” Yifan asked, voice low as a suggestive smile tugged at the corner of his mouth.
A few seconds passed before the dazed look on Jongdae’s face washed off, small smile gracing his lips.
“Get the spoon. We can’t do much anyway since I’m on my period”. It’s Jongdae’s turn to smirk and Yifan pouted, walking back to his house with a kicked puppy expression on his face.
Author's note: This was written in a very short time, sorry for everything this lacks. Thanks to N and W, my lovely betas for helping me in such hastiness. Happy birthday Jongdae and Amber, you guys actually made a cute couple
