For lunch, we all went out to Noodles & Co., a little place that serves Asian, Italian, American, and weird combinations of noodle dishes, stir-fried for the most part. It's cute, and the food is pretty good. I got pad thai with some chicken, but I think everything is vegetables only by default. Such a nice change from the standard fast food crap! Mmmm, bean sprouts.
Poor Erica is struggling with her rental company. They're being completely inflexible with her lease, and she's gone above and beyond to find someone to sub-let to for the last two months of the lease. I personally can't wait to get out of an apartment and get into a house that doesn't share walls with strangers. And patios, as well. Our current neighbors (the giant pink watering can people) let their dog crap all the hell over, and never clean it up. This is a gross violation of the pet rules, but so far nothing has been done (that we can tell). Meanwhile, our friends across the street get threatened with eviction because one of their neighbors thinks their dog may be over the weight limit. (She's a long-haired mix. She's fluffy. Of course she looks bigger than she actually is.) So irritating.
Maggie lent me some preggers clothes, so I actually have a few shirts that sort of cover my belly. When she was pregnant, there was actually a store in town that carried maternity clothes, so she actually had some laying around. I have to rely on Target and Wal-Mart (bleah) to have plus-sized stuff that's long enough, or to have more than one kind of pants with an elastic waist. So this is kind of nice.
I woke up this morning to cat breath in my face. I was on my side with my top arm behind me, and Fezzik had climbed onto me and stretched himself out (because he is tallcat) from my shoulder to my hip. One paw was on my ear, his chin was hanging over my shoulder, and his nose was two inches from my face. And he was breathing. Loudly. It tickled. It was so cute, but those of you who have smelled cat food can imagine what an hour in a warm, moist environment can do to that sort of smell. Fezzik is also smellycat sometimes, and this was one of those times. He didn't want to move, either. Awwww. What a sweet kitty, and I love snuggling, but not when I'm too warm (which is most of the time these days). See, this is why we keep the big lug.
Yay, it's Friday! Next week is the baby shower; that means we have to get some things sorted this weekend. Happily, the kitchen and living room are still mostly tidy, and the bathroom still needs one or two things deep-cleaned, but is largely in order. A quick tidy, vacuum and run of the dishwasher will take care of the weekly maintenance stuff, and of course laundry doesn't take huge chunks of time. Maybe we'll be able to get our bedroom in order, and from that, the spare room. A lot of it will be asking ourselves and each other over and over, "Do you still want/need this?" and then tossing it out or finding a place for it. We just need to actually sit there and do it.
It doesn't help that Nyte still isn't feeling his best. We verified he doesn't have strep, and the doc put him on a quick-and-dirty antibiotic, and he's starting to feel better, but he's not quite there yet. And since I'm exhausted all the time and can't pick stuff up or help cart things around, he has to do all the hard stuff.
It'll be nice to clean out the closets, throw away a bunch of accumulated junk, and make room for the podling. Having clean closets kind of feels like you've exfoliated really well, or cleaned out under your toenails, or used one of those pore strips. Like all your dirty bits have had a good scrubbing and are prepped for public view, should such an occasion arise. Maybe it's the girl scout in me, wanting to be prepared. Y'know, always wear clean underwear in case you're in an accident and the doctors have to cut your clothes off to save your life? That sort of prepared.
Well, the plant is waiting for some spreadsheets before I leave, and I don't want to have to hang around after hours today, so....back to work.
