Conner's Hat - Okay, okay. So, I ripped it back to the first row of decreases and knitted it straight up, and bound it off across so that it has corners on top. Then I pulled out the garter-stitch neck and ear flap I'd picked up and knitted around, and instead picked up and knitted seed-stitch earflaps, plenty big for a 18-month-old. Then I took some plain Sugar & Cream cotton, worsted weight, in white, and held it doubled as I crocheted a simple border around the hem and earflaps. It looks nice against the medium-blue denim acrylic. I think it's Jiffy, but I lost the label long ago.
So, it no longer looks like a baby Klan hat, but it's not done. I was going to make pom-poms for the corners, but I don't want it to be girly in any way. And then I was going to make the pom-poms with the cotton and color in some of the strands with black, or get some black yarn and knot it or something so that the pom-poms look like eyes, and do a little monster hat. But the cotton doesn't pom-pom very well, and it still kind of looks girly. So I don't know. Tassels would look like pigtails, and braided tassels would look like braids. Maybe just some fringe along the seam, both white and blue, and then I can attempt to embroider eyes on the front and make little snaggly teeth for the the brim. That wouldn't be too girly, and if I can get the eyes happy and not scary, it'd be cute. (I am not the best with only one needle and thread.) So. Y'know. Plans.
Sugar & Cream dishcloths - I made one in varigated white and lime greens (Key Lime) and plain white, the bricklayer stitch pattern (which is just so cool and simple and makes you feel brilliant). That one's finished. I have another one started in plain white, and then a varigated red/white/green colorway (Mistletoe). It's about 1/3 done. Same pattern. I have another full ball of Mistletoe, and I could probably squeak another ball's worth out of the remainders of the three. I think the one I'm working on now is Dishcloth #6 for Melissa. (Methinks she's not getting twelve. Just a hunch.)
Stay-Put Baby Booties - I'll be making a pair for Grant and a pair for Amelia. I have both pastel blue and pastel pink (and several other pastels) cotton, most likely mercerized, and possibly blended with acrylic (no labels). I'll probably start on Amelia's after this dishcloth. The pattern is in a book, Knitting Tips and Tricks. It's not a pattern book, but this is a simple pattern with ribbed sides that keep the booties on the baby's feet (babies kick. A lot.), and aren't too fancy. Might also do an umbilical cord hat, but we'll see. (I-cord top that you tie in a knot.)
Pinwheel Baby Blanket - Uh....I'll....I'll get to that. Eventually. I may or may not be slightly avoiding it because of the stupid yarn. *cough*
I really want to go get some more of that Key Lime Sugar & Cream and pair that with some double-worsted plain white, and make myself a bath rug with that stuff. A great big one, like the one in Mason-Dixon Knitting, called "Absorba the Great." Cheerful! And also I have a ball of varigated sunny yellows, which I bet will make a fantastic and happy dishcloth. I don't know what the colorway is called because I haven't worked with it yet, but I'm thinking I might need several of those skeins worked up into dishcloths with white, or maybe even medium blue yarn in the bricklayer pattern. Oh, huzzah for quick and easy projects!
