Oh What The Heck
I'll post an update even though I don't have much to say but I figured at least my LJ friends will know I'm still alive...
Ok. Comprehensive update... I'll go back one year, then in Chronological order:
- The restaurant closed, ending my 17 years of food service career
- I traveled... to Vegas, Cali, and a couple of national parks in that area
- My grandma passed away in Shanghai during the Olympics, I couldn't go to her funeral.
- Went back to Taiwan in Feb. Also visited Hong Kong and finally to Shanghai to see my grandma's grave/shrine
- Decided to pursue photography as my main career
Now, my photography life...
- I've lost a lot of children/baby portrait business due to bad economy. A lot of parents canceling their babys' sessions.
- Doing relatively well with the head shot segment for local students in the performing arts programs.
- Doing pretty well in the bridal portrait segment.
- Started booking high-end wedding coverage services.
- Started collecting (used) wedding dresses. I frequent ebay and craigslist, and have so far acquired 6 dresses. I pay between $40~$100 for dresses retailing between $450 and $2500.
- Will be covering a couple of fashion shows in DC. But I don't particular enjoy them because big city freelance models are very shallow. I prefer agency-represented models or self-represented ones who are from small towns.
- I've been struggling with the teen (high school senior portrait) segment. My marketing campaigns have failed again and again. I just don't know how to spread the words. The irony is that the style is actually my forte.
