The Future of Fanfic (as it pertains to my writing)
So, I know most probably don't even care, but it has been over two weeks since my last fanfiction post. Of course, this was due in large part to extenuating circumstances, events which were to be honest, completely unexpected and out of my control. For those who don't know (and honestly, I think like one person reads my journal and they know already) my mother passed away quite unexpectedly a few weeks ago. As far as creativity goes... I've been lacking in it. I've attempted to start projects (both fanfic and fanart) and while a few interesting ones do occasionally get finished (more pertaining to fanart), there has been a void in me as far as my creativity goes.
Out of nowhere, I had an idea for a playbyweb.com roleplay board. It's an adult themed, slash friendly roleplay called DCU: Damnation. Of course, this has proven to be a bit of an undertaking as my co-admin convinced me to play a lot of different characters.
The only problem is, not all the players are slash fans... so here is solution...
I am going to start writing fanfiction in this universe, most likely. It's a dark, gritty universe... but all of the death is over.
So you have a little background on the Universe...
The once great Justice League has fallen in to ruin. The Watchtower has been mostly deserted, running with only a skeleton crew and a few not so noteworthy heroes. Elongated Man, Booster Gold, and Blue Beetle are all who remain atop the tower.
Superman has died, one of the first to fall in a wave of vicious attacks against Super Heroes. His death brought about the decimation of the League. The Outsiders and The Teen Titans have been disbanded as the community has withdrawn from public eye, laid down their capes and tights, and let the world exist without them. Others were lost in the attack as well.
Darkseid , the alien Warlord from Apokolips, Mongul , the bloodthirsty ruler of War World, and Brainiac , the machine with knowledge of many worlds have heard of the League's demise and have come to take over Earth as a Triumvirate, fascist regime... their sole purpose to dominate and turn the human race in to a world of slaves.
The ship carrying the three has landed in Metropolis and immediately the news coverage is broadcast world wide. Many remember Brainiac and Darkseid .
Will this new threat on Earth bring about the resurgence of super heroes? And without Superman, will these enemies even be beatable?
Batman , the one most broken up by the death of his long time friend and super hero colleague, Superman , is enraged by this new disruption, thinking the death was enough. He begins to re-form a Super Hero team, code name: Damnation, to take on this threat. Now as he gathers both young and old together, they need to learn to work together as a team to face the darkest threat to mankind.
So, I have had several ideas for fanfics in this universe and now that I'm finally getting to the point that I have a desire to write, I'm going to attempt to write these.
As for my other projects... I'm not sure. As much as I want to say of course I am going to finish them, I just really don't know. My fanfic writing mood as shifted so much, I'm not entirely sure I'm still capable of taking those stories the avenue I wanted them to go. There will, I'm sure, come a time when I am able to pick those works up again and finish them, but as of right now-- they're all on hiatus.
Not all of my upcoming fanfic projects are going to be set in this universe, I just wanted to inform you some might be and give you some background on it.
So, be on the lookout for new projects and hopefully, I'll be a writing machine again in no time!
