Hi,

In my opinion people are scared by Heroin because of the stigma drilled into us that Heroin is a dirty word and just by touching the stuff will make us into fiending monsters. I've known heroin junkies who live functional lives for years. It all depends on the quality of life you and your dad have. If the drug use is getting out of hand (it sounds like it is if it bothers you enough to ask for help here) then you should try to talk to him.

If he is using heroin regularly he will be sick sneezing/yawning in the morning especially. When high he will sleep or nod off very frequently

I try to level with my parents when I am talking about a testy/personal subject. Tell him you care about him and want him to be happy. I would HIGHLY recommend that you look up some information on a treatment drug for opiate addiction called SUBOXONE. It gets rid of cravings/withdrawals from heroin and other opiates. This is a drug that you can get from a doctors office. It must be a doctor that is certified to prescribe it. (see link below). I think this might be the perfect answer as this is the closest thing to a cure all to drug dependence away from pure human will. You dad won't even have to give partying and the occasional coke usage. He can just see the doctor once a month. Plus you aren't required to go to any lame cult like NA/AA meetings and he won't have to check into treatment at all.

You may or may not have medical insurance. Suboxone is expensive but entirely worth it. It's not dangerous like Methadone either. Good luck with whatever you decide :)
