This must be what being an Intern feels like

Oct 01, 2010 19:05

Claudia Donovan sat heavily on her suitcase, bouncing lightly up and down on it to force the lid closed until she could reach down and finally click the whole thing shut. She wasn't used to traveling this heavy, but this was the first time in a while she'd be having an extended stay away from home. Home being the Warehouse, of course, funny how ( Read more... )

Nigel stared out the window in facination at the jets taking off and landing. Reading about them was one thing, actually seeing them was another. He stood by the main enterance, as far as one could go now in airports, and waited for a special guest Helen was expecting. He had been sent in to wait since the Big Guy couldn't exactly come in here and Nigel didn't have a driver's licence yet so..here he was.

Claudia shifted her daypack on her shoulder, rolling her suitcase behind her as she navigated through the airport crowds. It was barely 7am and she was feeling the strain of over five hours in the air. Nothing some coffee and a powerbar couldn't fix though.

When she got out to guest pickup she started scanning the gathered families and cabs for anyone who looked like they'd be bffs with Artie. She hadn't exactly been told who would be collecting her n this end, but had been assured they're be looking out for her. After a few minute of loitering, she pulled out her cell with a sigh, ready to call up Artie to complain about the lack of intel.

Nigel scanned the crowd for what he could remember of the discription he had been given of who he was to pick up. Young, odd colors in her hair. He grimaced at the rude guesture the first young woman he had stopped gave him.

Then he moved towards another young woman. "Miss Donavan?"

Claudia's head snapped up...and up at the very tall blonde man who approached her,

"Yeah, I'm guessing you're with the Spooks then." She grinned.

Nigel gave her a confused look. "I beg your pardon, spooks?"

She waved her free hand a little, "You know, G-Men, Men in Black, that kind of thing, waaaaaaay above my pay grade apparently, which...isn't hard considering I don't actually get paid..."

She stuck out her free hand, "Claudia Donovan, junior techhead extrordinare at your service."

Nigel took the very odd young woman's hand. "Nigel Griffin. Doctor Magnus sent me to collect you," he stated. "Are these all your bags?" he asked, nodding to the one she was dragging on wheels.

"Rock on", she acknowledged with a brief shake of his hand, "Yup, that's it, I pack light."

Nigel chuckled and offered to carry her back. "Our automobile is just outside. The Big Guy is driving. I'll get you loaded and we'll be off to the Sanctuary."

'Automobile'? Totally a member of Artie's book club. Claudia let him grab her rolling case, even if she kept her knapsack containing her laptop and a few personal items close.

She'd done a little, well, no, a lot of digging on the Sanctuary and Dr. Magnus, and had come up with almost nothing. And she was her. Which could only mean that someone or someones of considerable skills themselves had gone to a lot of trouble to keep things hush hush.

"Good thing I've got all my shots', she joked idly.

Nigel struggled to keep a straight face. She had no idea how true what she said may prove to bed. "This way, please," he stated, showing her the direction.

Claudia followed him with a quick salute, shouldering her knapsack. She may not appreciate the secrecy but she knew Artie wouldn't exactly send her out to stay with some psychos, plus Nigel seemed alright, in that tweedtastic british kind of way.

Nigel lead her out to where a nice luxury model larger sedan waited for them. He helped her stowe her things in the boot and then held open her car door for her, before going around the other side of the car to let himself in.

"That should be everything," he announced to the driver. "Thank you for waiting," he said with a smile.

The driver grunted and then looked back over the seat at them, giving Claudia a clear view of his face. He looked every inch the Bigfood he was, save for the hat pulled down low over the top of his head.

Claudia grinned a little to herself as the door was opened for her, she could get used to this whole 'guest of honor' thing. She slid in the back of the car, getting herself settled and buckled in when the driver gave her a quick cursory glance over.

Claudia gave a pronounced blink but just had...no good response and figured now was not the time to remark on how Chewbacca seemed to be driving them. Either that or the things she'd heard about Canadians were all true.

"So...", she began, "Am I ever going to get a brief or is this the part where you blindfold me to keep the location of your fortress secret?"

"I'm taking it that no one has explained to you what the Sanctuary is?" Nigel asked with an amused grin at her reaction to the Big Guy.

"Only in the sense of 'no'", Claudia grumbled, "But your Boss is clearly on the Mrs. Fredericks level of Artie-weirdness, she owns large properties in key places all over the globe, and your security system? The outdated one I get to wrestle? Is already waaaaaay above government issue. So the only real question is, what's the weird?"
