Friends? You sound like my RL favorite partner-in-crime.

The National need a shrine. By the way, what about "Fake Empire", "Wasp Nest" and "Start a War"? They sorted me out more than once and I sang them out loud with friends after parties that changed my life. The kind that have an afterparty in the park with red wine and underwear showing and forgotten scarves and initials carved on trees and urban furniture. But I digress.

Sure! (Sorry it took so long to reply. I'm just coming back from hiatus.)

Oh man, I LOVE all of those songs. "Fake Empire" is the perfect song to sing along to when you've stayed at the bar past closing with your best friend (who could be your worst mistake) and aren't ready to end the night yet.

Yes. To all of this, yes. <3

Welcome aboard!

High Violet is very very good, but I still haven't put it on par with Boxer. Yet. I think it needs a few more listens through with no distractions. I'm still loving the shit out of "Lemonworld" and "Conversation 16", though.

I'm very partial so far to "Conversation 16" and "Bloodbuzz Ohio", although I'm sure that a month from now I'll be humming the whole album in my sleep. Boxer set the bar almost TOO high, not that I resent it.

Oh, have you seen the Blogotheque performances? That version of "Start a War" almost made my father weep and he's not even a fan of The National! :)) I first watched those projected in an orchard around midnight at a party, which made me instantly fall in love with the band. And with the host, but that's incidental. :))

I agree with this SO MUCH.

I haven't seen those performances. I'm definitely going to have to track them down when I get a moment this weekend. Man, if they can make non-fans almost weep, I NEED to see them.

I love that story. It's always incidental, isn't it? :)
