Man Convicted In Girlfriend's Death

COLUMBUS, Ohio - After a three-week trial, a man was convicted Monday in the shooting death of his girlfriend.

Christine Turner was found dead inside her Ontario Street home in June 2006, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.

A day after her body was found, police arrested Turner's boyfriend, Darrin Brodbeck, and charged him with her murder.

Both defense and prosecuting attorneys agreed that Turner and Brodbeck (pictured, right) fought the night of the shooting, but disagreed about what transpired moments before Turner's death.

While prosecutors said Brodbeck, 31, shot his girlfriend in the head, defense attorneys argued that Turner, 37, was waiving a gun around and shot herself.

During the course of the trial, prosecutors and defense attorneys brought in forensic experts who failed to agree on whether Turner's death was a homicide or suicide, Mallett reported.

Evidence obtained by forensic experts failed to link Brodbeck to the gun, but in the end jurors found him guilty of murder and tampering with evidence.

He will be sentenced on Tuesday morning.

Turner's father said his family was relieved at the outcome.

"I had some doubts because I was advised this was a complex case," Jack Turner said. "It was a three-week trial, but in my mind, I think the jury saw through the culprit's lies and deceit."

Brodbeck faces a possible sentence of 15 years to life in prison. His family told 10TV News that he will appeal the conviction.
