i always detest school the first month. well actually i think now i just detest it in general because ive been at it for four years and im not near done. womens studies at york is infuriating. There is no prerequisite for my fourth year Feminist Theories class but all womens studies majors have to take it. meaning there are enough people in there who havent taken very much if any W.S classes. I'm reading shit ive read like fifty fuckin times. i have Ena Dua who is a pretty famous academic as my prof but she went over the syllabus for THREE hours and i was cursing my life by the second hour. I dont understand. Is this a part of the York Syndrome? That teachers feel that they must go over the syllabus in great detail because obviously we cant read it ourselves. I have worked hard to get to my fourth year seminars and while i understand the desire to have students from all across the board take womens studies classes, i am a little peeved that im discussing the DEFINITIONS of socialist, radical, and marxist feminisms for the first three weeks when ive done it for the last four years. UCH. how many times can we re invent the wheel before the students say fuck it im walking.
on another note the queer lounge was an experience this past weekend. I loved Shortbus and to NYC ppl, this new John Cameron Mitchell film is great, and such a tribute to the intricacies of your city, and I want to come to new york and find a sex parlour just like Shortbus.
In the words of a great toronto lezzie doctor which summed up the weekend entirely: "Ohhhh liccckkkk meeeee Ellen Hu*n*."
