The Republicans are masters of manipulation. I will give them that, if nothing else.
They convinced Americans that all government is bad--and that is exactly how Donald Trump could get elected. No experience in government was deemed a plus.
Now they have long claimed the media is in the pocket of liberals, even as they and Trump worked the media like a puppet on a string in terms of Hillary's emails. Yeah, that was a real story. (I refuse to go there again. It was a real story the first time it was investigated. Not the tenth. So don't. Even. Go. There.)
In the next four years, we will hear all about how bad the media is. Sorry-assed as the television media is, print journalism (the real thing, not Breitbart and its ilk) is the last link we have to democracy. Don't let the GOP poison that well, too.
