Didier Drogba has fractured his arm in a World Cup warm up match for the Ivory Coast. It is unknown how severe the break is at this point, however he may miss the Ivory Coast's first match, though the expectation is that he won't miss the entire World Cup.

The full report is here.

This disappoints me deeply. I was hoping the Ivory Coast would keep Portugal out of the round of 16, and that Drogba/Kalou would put the national team on the world map. But their first match (against the flying Ronaldos) also happens to be their most important (assuming we can write in a victory over North Korea and a loss to Brazil.)

I feel the same as you. I was really hoping and actually predicting that Guus would take over as manager of the Ivory Coast. He has such a good rapport with Drogba and Kalou that I thought it was a done deal and I could see the Ivory Coast doing a Cameroon of a few cups ago under him, but under Sven, with Drogba injured? I don't see much happening.

I too don't rate North Korea, however if they pulled a draw in one of their matches who knows with this group. Brazil are notoriously slow starters, it takes a while for their egos to fit on the pitch. This, to my mind, is the most interesting group, or at least it was. Now I think it will be Brazil and Ronaldo progressing.
