Wolves 0, Drogba 2....I know technically it was Chelsea 2, but given Drogba has scored more this year than Wolves I think it's fair to write it this way ;).
An interesting game. The refereeing was shocking at times, but not favouring one team or the other and some of our tackles could easily have seen bookings coming our way.
My comments pre-match about Anelka proved to be unfounded. In fact from kick off he seemed to be looking to feed Drogba and play as part of the team. I have no grounds for saying this, as in I haven't heard a rumour or anything, but it really seemed as though someone had read him the riot act and told him what was what...and he listened and responded, so kudos to him :).
The first half Wolves' Doyle was on fire and I felt sure he would score at some point, fortunately I was wrong. He also had his moments in the second half, but again, despite coming close it was to no avail. Wolves certainly had their chances, but a combination of a lack of skill in their finishing, a lack of luck and some good defending from John Terry, standing on the goal line when Cech came forward saved us (It's nice to know the Chelsea coaching staff and players seemed to have picked up on what I said about us needing someone on the goal line if Cech is going to come forward.
It wasn't an amazing game, though Drogba was a dream to watch and we had moments of magic, but they were only moments, but hey 3 points is 3 points and with Everton doing us a huge favour and beating United 3 - 1 it was a good day all in all.
Interestingly the stats show that Wolves had a total of 13 shots, 5 of which were on target, whereas we had 8 shots, of which only 2 were on target and both were goals. We also had 58% of the possession to Wolves' 42%.
Here's hoping we up it a gear or two mid week against Inter and keep going with next weekend's match against Manchester City as I strongly doubt 2 shots on target in 90 minutes will be anywhere near enough against either of these teams.
