YES!
A very nice and important win and all without breaking a real sweat...OK, some of the players may have broken a sweat but I didn't ;)....well except when Drogba and then Terry took knocks, but both were ok.
It was quite a bizarre match. Firstly compliments to referee. I don't mind too much how you interpret the rules, but please be consistent and today for the most part referee Mike Dean was consistent.
The first half it seemed to be all Arsenal in attack, but they were lacking the attacking power of Eduardo and Van Persie (and truthfully had these guys been playing Arsenal probably would have won and been title contenders).. Drogba scored twice in the first half, but really for mine it was against the run of play.
Cech did brilliantly today. He stayed on his line and looked like a world class goalkeeper and got a clean sheet for his efforts. The one time he came forward was in the second half and was, in my opinion, Arsenal's best chance for a goal in the second half. He also made a brilliant save, on his line, a pure reflex job. I'm sorry that I harp on about Cech and his line, but anyone who watches Chelsea matches closely must see the difference.
The second half Chelsea effectively went into cruise control. We were 2 goals up and never looked in danger unless the match had been moved to Old Trafford and was going to be played until Arsenal won it, which would have been at least 3 or 4 weeks from now *lol*.
The match commentators said something along the lines of "They are feeding Drogba's ego by taking him off before the end of the match so he can receive a standing ovation from the crowd."...Uh huh. It apparently had nothing to do with an ever increasing chop to the pitch due to rain, or the fact that we are playing Everton very shortly, or even that we were 2 goals up, no, it was "Drogba's ego" - moron!
Anelka was asleep again! I'm honestly wondering (and I am not alone here) if he is "on strike" since Drogba's return, or is having one of those tanties (tantrums) which he was famous for when he joined us. Or perhaps he is giving Chelsea staff an indication that he would like to move on as he doesn't want to play second string to Didier.
All in all a good match and a GREAT result!
Oh and I won a bar bet too. 3 of the football heads were telling me that John Terry was Chelsea born and bred career wise. I said no, he joined from West Ham Juniors aged 14. A quick internet check by my mate's wife confirmed I was right. Once my win was acknowledged the claims came that perhaps Chelsea steal all West Ham's talent, to which I countered we at least gave them a manager, Zola, in return ;).
Interestingly we scored the same numbers of goals against Arsenal as Manchester United scored against Portsmouth...because Pompey scored 3 own goals for the 5-0 scoreline!
