if it was really that long ago since his birth-parents’ passing, how was it that the Cullens were old enough to have adopted him when it happened?

Thus, Carlisle chose to remain in Forks instead of relocating to some other place, any other place, where they’d never had any kind of binding, perpetual, obviously-not-completely-forgotten agreement with any of the locals that they were still expected to honor. Edward thought it was a fairly stupid decision at the time. Both things I've thought of myself in the past - the Cullen's in Forks is especially silly, even if it has "perfect weather" for them, seeing as how they've managed to live in other towns and cities in the past without much problem (that we know of), weather wise anyway. It's just silly really that they would choose not just to come back to such a small area when they know there would be a possibility for drama. It "makes sense" for Meyer, because it created drama she could use for later, but honestly, it would've made far more sense if it'd been the first time they moved ( ... )

See, Meyer tries to justify the Cullens return by saying the first time they settled in Hoquiam, about 100 miles to the south, which (by modern travel means) is a two-hour drive from Forks, but in the 1930s probably would have taken much longer. So I can sort of see why Meyer felt she could get away with it. But I still think it's stupid ( ... )

I wonder then, why the Q's thought just protecting the Reservation was enough -- that they didn't want to include Forks, since they are so close and "practically one town". I don't know what it might've been like though, back then - it's quite possible that the two were far more separated than they are today. It could also be that since the Q's only had a say over what happened in La Push, they didn't include Forks because it wasn't "their job to protect them", as it was with the residents of La Push. But at the same time, they feel that it's their "job" to protect everyone from vampires. So Forks really should've been included, especially since Carlisle is such a push-over... er, I mean, such a gentle and polite young man. He would've given in and agreed without thinking about it, as long as the wolves then agreed not to attack the Cullens ( ... )
