Well, life is constantly changing around here.
Jeff started at WNDU on Wednesday and is working pretty close to full time, which is great, and he will probably work a little bit at Ace on the side for a little extra money since he will be using a lot more gas now....an hour and 15 minutes to work and an hour and 15 minutes back. He works with one other production assistant whenever he works...and his shifts are pretty much 3 p.m. to midnight...as of yet he hasn't gotten out of work before 1 a.m., putting him home well after 2 a.m. which kind of sucks. Our schedules are completely different and we aren't seeing each other much, but quite honestly the thought of both of us having "career" jobs is VERY exciting. We are both MUCH happier these days.
I said is my last post that i had applied to the South Bend Tribune to be a reporter. Well, I was at the Society of Professionals Conference in Indianpolis Thursday, Friday and today and met a woman that works at the news desk at the Tribune. Through a series of events, I was soon in touch with the managing editor, who is doing the hiring, and she said my stuff looked very promising. The problem? My heart did not at ALL feel right about the Tribune. Believe it or not, Jeff and I have decided to stay in Winamac...at least for now. I really am not ready to leave the Journal and he is more than happy to let me stay at the job I love, he has said multiple times in the past few weeks that he doesn't want me to leave the Journal if I don't want to.
I feel like I am just now getting to a really great point in my career here...I haven't even reached my full potential yet...my relationships with people are really starting to come in to play and I am really loving my job. I can't fathom being at a job where I didn't get to do everything I do at the Journal...and at a bigger paper, I'd be stuck on one beat...and probably not a very good one as the newbie. Right now I get to write, do photography, video, everything...and I get to decide what to cover, I don't have anyone telling me what to do.
Regardless of the problems I have had with John in the past, I have realized I have perhaps been a little harsh. He treats me better than any of the other employees and really tries to be fair. I really would like more feedback on things, but I plan to sit down and talk to him about things more in the future. I have an amazing job, there is no reason I should leave.
So, in the end, Winamac wins. And we know it's the right decision. So this week we will be heading to the bank to get pre-approved for a mortgage and then start looking at houses. I am so excited. We have some really good friends here, and a very good life here. And, now we'll have a guest bedroom so people can come visit us, which takes more pressure of us to travel home so often.
Hopefully in six months of so, Jeff will get to move into a full time position and we'll go from there :o)
I bought my first two items of clothes from The Limited today...I was pretty excited. Their dress pants are AMAZING!!
