The year's almost OVER! yeaaaaah!

Until then, it's mad freaking crunch time on work. I got severely ill for about a month this semester and I'm behind but it's doable.

I got a full scholarship and stipend from the Department of State to study Arabic in Tunisia for 9 weeks this summer. I leave May 31st and I am pretty psyched about it, but am definitely gonna miss Alana. I want to write my thesis on something to do with Arab African Jews (starting with: no, Arab Jews are not an anomaly and in some areas have existed even before Arab Moslems) and there's a sizeable Arab Jewish community in Tunisia, so I am hoping I will become fluent enough in MSA and Tunisian colloquial to do some research there next summer.

Speaking of Alana, we had our year anniversaries (according to both Hebrew and English calendars) recently. I am really going to miss her over the summer but it's only 9 weeks and I'll be having a lot of fun so I'm sure it will go fast (or at least I hope). The year flew by so quick, I am excited for the next one. :)

She's graduating next month and turned her thesis a couple weeks. I went through the whole thesis process with her and it was really intense. I'm glad it's over. This fall she's entering a Jewish service corp that fights poverty in ways that address the structural causes of poverty rather than hyper-individuate the circumstances that create poverty. She'll be living in a Jewish communal house in Brooklyn and will be working for Gay Men's Health Crisis downtown (Manhattan). Even though she'll be in New York, it takes a while to get to Brooklyn off the L Train (which is where she'll be living by for anyone who knows the area) which doesn't get the most regular service. It's going to take some adjustment, and even though I am sad we're not going to see each other as much for a while, I'm not nervous because we're so strong as a couple.

Also- I'm going to be an RA next year for first-years. I applied to RA sophomores, juniors, or seniors so it was an interesting assignment to get. There's so much potential for improving first-years' experiences at Barnard in the position and I am excited and nervous thinking of all the potential.

I'm tired and have so much work to do. I just need to get through the next week and a half, then two weeks of relaxation in Manhattan with Alana and friends, then Tunisia, then coming home to Maine and friends, then possibly going on a kayaking trip with Alana and her family, then RA Training..... whaaaaa!!!
