Why Toyota Should Bring Back the Celica

Okay so this is something that I've been thinking about for awhile.

Yes I understand there isn't a market for sports cars these days like there used to be since people want fuel efficiency, not gas guzzlers. Hear me out, though.

Right now if you want a Toyota sports car, your only choices include a used Scion FRS, a GR86 (the new FRS), and a Supra.

Both the 86s and the Supras are hard to find. I just did a search and there's only one of each model near me and the closest 86 was in Vero Beach which is actually not close at all. So the available of inventory of both of them is not there. The Supras are a sports car and are highly customizable but to be honest, they are more for someone who is into racing. The Celica, however, could be a great sporty vehicle that would last a long time, need minimal maintenance, were affordable, and could be driven by a teen wanting a convertible to an older mom wanting a nice summer car. The Supra costs as much as an SUV.

This would give Toyota an option to compete with the Mustangs of the world. Camaros aren't selling like they used to with the current redesign. Chevy owners who want a sports car are choosing Corvettes instead but they are more expensive. Nissan has its own sporty option but it's more for people who are into racing as well.

The Celica would be an economy option vs the BMWs, Porsches, Corvettes, Audis, and Ferraris of the world. It could even be put out there with a manual that one could switch to an automatic if one wanted (ie for long trips). It would be a great touring car on long backroads.
