So here are my thoughts on Elementary,
I liked it, I just had to remove myself from BBC’s Sherlock and treat it as just another procedural which let´s face it, I’m a fan of procedurals, even if by now I can almost always say who did it and why. Here are some points:
· On Watson: it’s not so much that it’s a woman, I love Lucy Liu but when you take the army element out of Watson when it’s such a fundamental part of the character and change the injury he sustained in combat for killing a patient it’s just not comparable and changes the motivations of the character, plus Dana Delany did it better in Body of Proof; when you make her successful and practically rich you take away that obligation that’s always there for Watson in the books, even though Watson is Sherlock’s’ friend and cares about him at the beginning the money, the lack of it, was a part of the storytelling.
· On New York: I love New York but it´s sooooo over used on tv, right now it´s Castle and law and order SVU and CSI NY, just 3 right now off the top of my head, so I’m not that excited about yet another procedural show in NY.
· On Sherlock: I’m a huge fan of Jonny Lee Miller; he’s doing a good job. I think there’s this trend of quirky characters that started with monk and house and then the guy from the mentalist, perception, to name a few and to me Sherlock is less quirk more intellect and focus and WTF.
· Jon Michael Hill is awesome can’t say more
So if I concentrate on this not being a take on Sherlock Holmes by Arthur Conan Doyle then I can see myself enjoying it, I like the writing and the characters so I’ll keep giving it a chance.
