The only time I fell off the Trek was dashing for the bus in Tucson, in my brand new chef outfit, after work at the Lodge nearly ten years ago. But then I didn't ride much there.
I've paid more attention to road conditions since Oct. 28 when I fell off the Wahoo (a hybridized Gary Fisher mountain bike) and hurt myself fairly badly. It has taken weeks for some of the owwies to get better. Some still ache.
Yesterday I felt the need to buy some fresh food and proteins. So I got on the bike and headed for the natural grocery over by Albertson's. Went down Country Club and turned on Southwood and followed it until the forced left turn at the end. I scoped out the traffic, saw no cars coming in either direction, and thought I would make the left turn. I was not mindful enough, and the bike slid out from under me.
It's funny how you have time to think, "Oh, I'm falling," between losing balance and hitting the ground.
Left knee and wrist this time. It was icky to find skin on the inside of my long johns, but with my jeans, they minimized the damage. I cut short my trip and went to Trader Joe's, which is nearer at hand. No harm to the bike, luckily, so I was able to ride home. At Kevin's suggestion I put a lot of Chinese white flower oil (Hoe Hin White Flower Analgesic Balm) on and felt better right away. Come to think of it, he bought that bottle of the stuff here in Eugene for me after I fell, when he was visiting at Halloween.
