I told the boss, "I can tell I'm getting more effective, people are starting to sabotage me." He raised his eyebrows. "Somebody walked past that hot box and turned the thermostat down to zero," I said.

"Oh, that was a mistake," he countered, "or an accident."

"To turn the knob on the TOP of the box, which we never change, and not turn the box off? I don't think so."

This summer's camps are going much better. The dementor supe is not with us this year, so the ambient emotion is much less fraught. No bullying makes a big difference. Today is the last day of the second football camp, where we feed about 900 kids. After tomorrow it's all downhill.

Sent out departmental mass e-mail inviting them all for the Fourth.
