Generations

From gradeschool through college, I worked with my father in his landscape maintenance business. We did both commercial and residential work, and being 3rd generation in our town my father knew many of the people for whom we worked ( Read more... )

Muscle mass is for *doing* stuff. If a guy (or gal) has big muscles because s/he does the kind of physical labor that makes big muscles, great. But the kind of exaggerated muscle definition that comes from extreme bodybuilding (with or without the help of muscle-enhancing drugs) just seems like another body mod to me. Somehow I don't think those people spend their out-of-the-gym time hauling furniture or shoveling coal, you know?

I agree. And there's something damned sexy about muscles that DO come from actual labor. Biological/evolutionary holdover for mate selection? No clue:)

In my time, I don't believe I have ever encountered a woman who really, really fancied bodybuilders. This makes me wonder if, much like men perferring women with more meat on their bones than the media would have us believe, the same is true in reverse for women's preferences.

It's never been my impression that hard-core body builders are doing it for the ladies, any more than women who go to body-modding extremes are doing it for the gents. I think it's something akin to a fetish, and has more to do with fucked-up cultural messages of what it means to be "masculine" and "feminine" than what actual people look for when selecting mates. (There's also a fairly strong homoerotic content in male bodybuilding, IMO...)

Yay! I agree wrt female tummies. If by that you mean soft or flabbish on a fella though, I would hazard a guess that you are in the minorty of women.

You might be surprised. An entirely unscientific sampling (of women I know, in research conducted over many glasses of red wine and much giggling) suggests that male tummies (and love handles, too) have more than a few admirers.

Certainly your research will be more extensive and valid than mine. But, do you think it is because women find them attractive or even hot, or is it because that makes other women less likely to hit on yer man - or make women feel less self conscious about their own? :)

I can only speak for myself: I find men with meat on their bones attractive and hot. And my current sweetie certainly has enough other sweeties to suggest that the "other women won't hit on your man" thing does not apply. (-:
