Well, I've heard that London has had frequent (but minor) terrorist attacks, largely because they allow so many Muslims in. So.. they pretty much knew.
I watched Tony Blair give a speech and I saw some footage. It's so awful.
What I've heard they're doing in some middle eastern countries is putting pig fat on the public transportation, so if it blows up all the fat enters the humans bodies. Muslims believe that they go to hell if they consume pork. It seems to be working! However, that is only the case for suicide bombers.
Are we on the offensive or defensive?

They also think maybe because of the G8 summits, but my guess is its to intimidate one of the few European countries that stood up against terrorism on a day of happiness and high hopes. A scare tactic, I suppose. On way or another, the only group claiming responsibility is an al Qaeda related terror cell, so...
There's almost undoubtedly an Islamic group behind it. The G8 summits just happen to provide a conveniently symbolic day on which to do it, I don't think Al-Qaeda or any other group expressly cares about G8
