This city reminded me very much of India although far less crowded. Driving through the jungle on a one lane road to come to this bit of a town with not terribly bright overhead lights and lots of folks on the street. We went in search of a restaurant that is no longer there then would up having Italian. Yup, fresh pasta made in the kitchen. The bruschetta di parma was delicious as was the freshly made fettucine with quattro formaggio although the cheeses were parmesan, mozzerella, blue cheese and cream cheese. The panna cotta was fantastic as well, but the cream here is thick as thick can be so it wouldn't take much gelatin at all to set. After that we went to a gelateria where I could not pass up the amaretto. It wasn't as heavily almond flavoured as I would have liked. The coconut that Sky had was far better. This was the most sugar that I had consumed and of course, I crashed like a rock.
Love Akumal and Tulum as well. It was delightful to fall asleep hearing the waves crash in the background. At the moment, I think that I could be somewhat happy living here as an ex-pat. That being said, there are things that I miss already. Some clearly involve people who are in my life or becoming involved in my life. Others clearly revolve around food. There's something to be said for the abundance of fresh fruit and vegetables available year round in California. I've been to a number of grocery and produce stores here and while I am sure that some of the fare would change with the seasons, I not so sure that it would be as varied as I've come to rely upon. Thank goodness that retirement is years away.
Going home is going to be a challenge, but only because I've gotten up between 6 and 7 which means 3-4 am at home. Maybe I've been going about things all wrong. Seems that my internal clock is set to the east coast. Hmm.
