I was too damned tired to drive home on Thurs night. Decided to wait out the traffic so as not to repeat the prior week's 5 hour commute which should have taken 2. The result was that I got up at 5 a.m. in order to make it home in time to crawl back into bed. Well, this time of year it's daaaark at 5, so it felt like I was driving during the middle of the night. I watched the sky turn from black to deep blue to red to it's usual daytime. I utterly LOVE dawn. I love that most people are sound asleep when I get to watch the change from dark to light. 'kay call me crazy, but that pre-dawn to dawn is my favorite time of day.
Got home and was surprised that the dog was not doing the wiggle-butt dance at the door or barking for that matter. A few moments after I opened the door she popped her sleepy head around the corner and did a toned down version of the dance. I got her tucked into her own dog bed before crawling into a warm and toasty bed and snuggling by butt up to my old man.
What a wonderful start to the morning. We managed to sleep in until 9:30 then I made breakfast and we both did some chores before heading out to see "Apocolypto" in the afternoon. Frankly, I liked the movie. I like that it was subtitled. I didn't mind that it was gory or sadistic. Human sacrifice was a part of certain cultures. And, it's a MOVIE If you are freaked out by either, don't go see the movie.
They opened a new Henry's in La Quinta. We went because I neede a machengo (a hard spanish cheese that has a nutty flavour) fix and we wanted to see what they had in stock. So spicy sausage, a couple of cheeses, some crackers, brautworst and baaacon ::drool:: it was along with some hummus, pita chips, and apples. Can ya tell we had a cheese plate and wine for dinner?
Today, my partner is going shopping. I utterly abhor shopping, particularly at this time of year, and plan to get caught up on some paperwork or perhaps write a bit. If he gets home at a reasonable hour, we are baking gingerbread. I have two recipes that I want to try and are going to see which one works best. Either we or I are hitting a local latin market because I'm jonesing for adobo. I love pork adobo and am putting together fajitas for the nightly meal with the kid and the grandkid.
I had some other things that I wanted to post about, but now can't for the life of me remember what they were. ::sigh:: I've been screwing around on the web and it's now 8, so I'm gonna crawl back into bed for a few.
Saturdays . . . bliss.
