Post PDX

Last week was a whirlwind of activity leading up to a trip to Portland.

On Tues, I made what was supposed to be a simple court appearance for an attory that I do work for from time to time. The operative word being "supposed". The appearance was at 10:00 a.m. I didn't leave the courthouse until 2:40 p.m. then raced across town to do a speaking gig for a human sexuality class.

Wed, I wasted most of the morning in a Court appearance that really wasn't necessary and could have been done by phone (yaay for technology), but the Judge likes to see live bodies.

Both of those events really jammed me for the week. Lots of work. Not a lot of time to do it in, and a Thurs afternoon flight with billing to be provided to my boss before I left town. Stress, stress, stress.

A friend of mine and I agreed to meet and stay with a mutual friend, Darryn, in Portland. I'd been meaning to get to PDX for the past 10 years and just hadn't gotten around to it. Since we were travelling from different starting points we coordinated to arrive within 15 minutes of each other, or so we thought. Alaska Air had foo on the trip up and the trip back, the consequence being that my friend spent an inordinate amount of time at the airport. I've had pretty good luck with Southwest (knock wood).

We had a relaxing three days with a few forays out into the world but not many. Due to my own stupidity, I failed to get chefxh's telephone number, so we were not able to meet. My friends and I went to the Portland Eagle and did manage to meet dodgingwndshlds while he was working, so at least we were able to chat a bit. I was tempted to enter the hairy chest contest that evening because I had a good chance of winning $$, but opted not to because I know me. I fall asleep at the drop of a hat and the last thing that I wanted was to be out at a bar all night long. Then again, who knows when I'll have the opportunity to earn money by showing off my fur. Oh well.

I got a lot of down time and managed to make pancakes. There were plans afoot to bake but that did not happen. Ran into someone who I met at the Seattle Conference, but did not recognize him. I think that we met on the shuttle and chatted very briefly. I'm awful with names although I do tend to remember faces. Thing is I meet a lot of people via work, etc., and had other more pressing things occupying my mind that weekend.

Today, it's just good to be home. Made chorizo and eggs for breakfast. What is it about pork sausages, chorizo in particular, that are just so satisfying. It's one of my favorite meals. I gave the dog a bath and am now off to scrub the kitchen floors because they are driving me crazy.

There is a plan is for dinner, but I don't know what it is. A friend from Delta just shared a recipe for "poor man cookies" which were a raisin cinnamon concoction that were simply decadently delicious, so I think that I'll be making these (after I get to the store for some raisins) and a dry run of gingerbread as Sky is making gb cookies next weekend. I'm sure that I have a recipe from one of the chefs back at the apartment, but for now we are going to use Sherry Yard's Secrets of Baking recipe.

I have the Food Channel playing in the background and it's making me ::drool:: for broccoli rabe and a stuffed pork tenderloin.
