So last night I went to the Red & Black cafe. I had a very weird vegan sandwich. The first half was very tasty but very salty so by the time I got to the second half I think my palatte just said "too much." It had vegan bacon in it. I have no idea what that even is. It also had something i believe is called "Vegannaise." On the whole it wasn't bad, it was just way over salty.
Anyway, so this cafe has both tables and couches. I was sitting on one of the couches waiting for my food to be ready and I saw a copy of the Asian Reporter sitting there and it had a big picture of an enormous crocodile with a snake tail sticking out of its closed mouth. The caption read "That's One Less Snake on a Plane." I was highly amused so I had to read the article. It spoke about how the water snake population in Cambodia is being overhunted and the practice is definitely not sustainable. They're using the snakes to feed bigger more commercially viable reptiles that are farmed, such as crocs. Many of the people that live in the swamps there actually live off the snakes' meat as well because other sources of food are so poor in that area but the fish have also been over-depleted.
On a more local note.. My car is still out of commission. I'm borrowing my parents' van though so I do have a way to get around in emergencies, otherwise it's the bicycle for me. I'm really enjoying the bicycling though, so that's good. I had to ride to work in lightly sprinkling rain this morning and unfortunately I was not prepared for the weather clothing wise. I was freezing by the time I got to work. Warm in the core, cold in the extremeties. *shiver*
The mornings and evenings are definitely starting to feel like fall. I hope the fall is mild with some rain but not cold rain. I guess we don't really get those nice warm rainfalls very much. What with that ocean next door and things. We are in dire need of some moisture at this point though. Most of August has gone by without any rainfall at all. Though this morning broke that trend. It was just a very light sprinkle though, just enough to make biking uncomfortable. I need to start thinking about picking up some rain gear! And maybe a fender or two for my bike as well.
I've recently been cat sitting my roommate's brother's cat Mookie. He's very sweet but he's very nocturnal. Although when I get up in the morning he's waiting for me outside my bedroom door. He's not allowed into my bedroom after he refused to come out from under my bed and we had to move the bed to get him out. I've since purchased a squirt bottle that comes in handy when he decides to jump up on the kitchen counter or the table. He doesn't like the squirt bottle much. Although, my plants are enjoying it! :D
Mookie.
