Yesterday, the Legacy team has finally developed the world's largest photograph inside the world's largest camera. And Mike and I were there to help them. Wohoo! I timed the developing part, which was really scary.
Anyways, as for my view camera class, I swear I'm starting to hate that piece of crap box. Ok, maybe not the equipment, but the class, the students, the teacher and the photography department in general. I applied into a community college expecting a completely different atmosphere from a university, you know, like I expected students to be of varying ages who have yet to figure out a direction to take, really old people eager to learn the subjects, things like that Well, I did find them at OCC. But I didn't expect to find asshole faculty members who do treat students as if they have high school mentality and no directions which I found unfair even though from the students I have spoken to in class, I realize a lot of the students DO have a high school mentality and HAVE no direction in life. They just go to school, take random classes they don't need (a lot of people in my class don't take photography seriously; they just think they look cool with a camera) for the sake of seemingly having directions. Then there's the older, middle-aged students who are so damn eager to learn. I thought at first that was great, I thought maybe I could relate to some of them since I couldn't with anyone else and I am just as damn eager to learn as they are. Well, apparently a lot of them hold this belief that as old people, they are the enforcer of the saying "old age comes with wisdom" (which I also believe to a certain extent) and therefore THEY MUST be smarter and better than the rest of the class. It irritates me to see some of them kissing-up, blatanly and unashamedly pointing out their own merits and jobs well done to the teacher, expecting showers of praises and then turning around and condescendingly pointing out the flaws and mistakes of other people's work because they are after all, the enforcer of the saying "old age comes with wisdom." So far I've avoided a certain old lady's scathing remarks, except for the other day. She had this suddent need to reprimand me for leaving my buzzer on my timer on. I was ready to scratch her eyes, but instead told her to calm down and I'll turn my buzzer off if it's stressing her too much. And all I got was a cold thank you and an unnecessary explanation as to why I shouldn't leave my buzzer on which I promptly ignored. But not everyone is class are that horrible. There are some older students who are nice enough to understand some of my cluelessness and at the same time not underestimate my intelligence which keeps me from losing my sanity.
Eight weeks of being stuck in a class where old people treat young people like idiots and young people who are idiots is turning me into a cynical biatch. I need to surround myself with smart people. For now I have no choice. I guess I can just let the old hags and farts think of me as another dumb adolescent. I don't have to prove myself to them. As for the dumb adolescents, ehh, I'm just gonna have to avoid talking about serious photography, school, career, family, relationships, books and everything else and stick to topics like Brangelina and Anna Nicole Smith, then I'll be fine.
