So my grandfather is sick, very sick. He's having serious heart problems and is trying to get all his "affairs in order" which includes selling my great-grandfather's farm with all our family hierlooms in it. Needless to say, my family was told "come visit" ASAP and so we all (mom, dad, Julie, Tyson, and me) rearranged our schedules to get this upcoming weekend off and go to be with him. Yesterday we get a phone call saying Dot (my step-grandmother) needs to see an eye doctor in Little Rock, Arkansas the morning of the day we are coming. They could fly there, since they are both old and shouldn't be driving 500 miles anyway and then still be home before we are supposed to get there. But no, they want to drive and be gone Thursday-Saturday. They are soooo sorry because Dot doesn't want us to think that her health gets in the way every time our family plans something (she schedule knee replacement surgery for the week of my high school graduation) but it sure looks oftly convienant to me!
Every time our family has some important family event something happens to her! Supposedly this appointment has been in the making for awhile, THEN WHY WEREN'T WE TOLD WHEN WE REARRANGED OUR LIVES TO COME!?!?! Tyson can't take off a different 4 days to come, this was going to be it. This is spring break. This is when we have to go. My grandfather turns 87 this month... there aren't going to be that many more opportunties to spend time with him. Why can't her son take her to the doctor and we visit with him?! Why does she always take my grandfather away when I want to see him!?!
Am I being selfish? or is she? Just cause Tyson and I got married instead of just getting pregnant like her granddaughter. Just cause I have "good, wholesome friends" (that's how you people that were in my wedding were described by my grandfather) and her granddaughter doesn't.. does it really mean she has to get sick every time we want to see him so that it's NEVER a good time for us to visit? What the heck!? I was told not to be resentful... but I can't help how I feel. I want a weekend with my grandfather even if I have to drive to Little Rock!

In other news, today makes my parents 29th wedding anniversery. I'm so proud of them for staying together for so long. Next year makes 3 decades!
