i feel sad.

what this shows me is that we live in a world that doesn't seem to understand what love is. what the 59 comments that echoes the writer's sentiments show me is that we live in a world that doesn't understand what love is and yet doesn't make an effort to do so. we swallow wholesale the good feelings and pretty-sounding wounds promoted as love, and when it bites back, we give in to words that either vindicate our ill emotion (like that post) or ideals that give us false hope ("oh don't worry, he just wasn't the right guy. one day u'll meet the perfect person just for you")

don't we ever, ever stop to think? take time and effort to chip away at the packaging love always seems to come in and consider what love really is?

in the post, the writer said "i'm lost in love". that's exactly the problem. more often than not all we're doing is being lost in love. getting caught up in the whole experience of it that we become not in love with a person, but in love with love.

"Only because I miss the guy who wouldn't let me get off the phone until he fell asleep.
Only because I miss the guy who was willing to drive 2 hours to come see me.
Only because I miss the guy who told me he loved me first and blushed like a little boy.
Only because I miss the guy who told me he wanted to be with me forever.
Only because he assured me that long distance won't stop him from loving me, that, 'I can do it. Don't you worry about that.'"

summed up, the writer's in love with the guy who could give her security, happiness, overall positive emotion. in other words, isn't what the writer wants simply security, happiness and overall positive emotion and the person was simply a means to that end? so she didn't really love him, did she?

so here's the question that needs to be asked. what really, does it mean to love someone? to love a person. as an end unto him/herself. we need to stop stupidly saying we love people and drown ourselves in all the emotions that come with it when we don't even know what in God's name loving someone actually is.
