After The Curtain Fell

Summary: Long years after the events of MR two bit part characters bump into each other again. And why wouldn't they - everyone drifts to Ankh-Morpork in the end. There are the obstacles of a difficult past to navigate not to mention the blasted Undertaking. (Tonker/Lofty)

Have dedicated tonight's extra hour to read! And aw, man, while I have to admit these two are only my second favorite pairing from MR, I'm really rather intrigued with all these hints to backstory and would like to read more. Wish I could comment more extensively, but, you know how it is :(

I am honoured that you managed to scrape some free time to read this offering. Thanks a million, :D

Don't worry - there is a lot more, but it's the difficulty of sliding in backstory here and there, cos they wouldn't tell it to each other, both knowing it, and what with being very private people they're unlikely to tell anyone else. Bah. I shall just have to keep dropping small nuggets and hope it's enough.

Good luck with your thing-not-to-be-mentioned, hope it's going ok, mine's pretty much almost there - I think.

I continued last night's indulgence by reading "The past is a foreign country" on ff.net, which I hadn't before because, apparently, I thought I had read it before, and I may be a convert*. How inconvenient when I still have to finish that big hunk of Mal-related angst and that other thing which is going okay-ish I mean at least there's some sort of effect somewhere in the data but the panic level is rising so close to the deadline..

I likes the small nuggets because I appreciate subtlety in angst even if I don't tend to achieve it myself.

*Which is not to say I want squee and drop everything I'm doing should there be an update to the Polly/ Mal thing.

*will* squee, even. *returns to writing the unmentionable*

See I was gonna point you in that direction - but then I thought "yeah, but it is only AngstAngstAngst and Issues" (hence why I've never linked it here).

But it does kinda start the "Lofty wasn't born a pyro but uses it as a coping mechanism" so it might be relevant. I dunno. It is rather extensive I'm afraid. And not at all cheerful. Don't fret that you'll be interupted by the Polly Mal thing, I doubt I can give it the attention it deserves until after the-thing-that-cannot-be-mentioned is done.

As to yours all I can advise is: Don't panic. It's very unlikely to be productive. If it helps I can confidently assure you that editing paragraphs written about data takes so much less time than the original writing of them. You'll get there. Promise.

But I like the extensive non-cheerful angst and issues! Which probably comes across totally wrong, but, know what I mean? I don't think I could ever write something 100% cheerful, and that's what I like to read, too.

And thanks for the heads-up, that's something I realised as well; after two and a half months of analysing data (a very dragging mixture of doing things for the first time & several - extensively explored - dead ends) I wrote the second draft of the results chapter in a week (first was aborted after umpteen pages when I realised no-one was going to read it) and all that's missing is a bunch of pretty pictures and diagrams.

Also, ahem *shuffles feet*. Would you mind if I added you to my friends list?

If you like it I'm not complainin' :D It takes all kindsa sorts to make a readership etc. Plus it was a good exercise to attempt to write in kid language.

I'm at the stage of reading sentences and thinking "darnit - need a reference for that" - hunt hunt hunt, AHA! *inserts*

(Oh so sweet! yes of course, I was too shy to ask likewise) You won't get to read much interesting though - blog is mainly for moaning about the flu and murderous kittens.

Awesome :D Added you back. My entries are mostly German, but I shall attempt a more international approach in the future because the English language has better swearwords and I think I may need them.

I'm currently writing a witty introduction. :D It even has nerdy injokes, but I may yet take them out and add some substance instead *sigh*

My german is virtually non-existant, but I can admire the way the paragraphs are laid out on the page :)

Susbtance is for wimps. I don't have any in mine thesis. Am excessively pleased I managed to use the word mirriad in a sentence though. Made my day.

Aw, you're missing out on the awesome, epic, non-rhyming how-I-stubbed-my-toe poem and subsequent whining :D

What is that word, it is not part of my English learnings.

Ok, seriously? My toe beats your toe hands down (but I hand over sympathy none the less). Mine nearly fell off :p

Ah yes, that would be: myriad (bad spelling I have it - I blame the hammiflu and the clocks changing) mmeaning a collection of varied things.

Oh, admittedly mine was still firmly attached after the stubbing but it still hurts when I poke it after 18 days (ok, maybe that's cos I ever-so-wisely took up running again after eleven, but damn, it's just a little toe and I care not). But I read your toe story and you do win, hands down, but I'm not sure what. And the flu? Oh man. At least you saved the cat? :D

Myriad! I know that one! *feels somewhat less stupid*

Ouch. I sympathise again. The cat was worth saving - it is most cute. Crazy and thick as a plank, but cute.

You're not stoopid! Very very bright ye are. Fo sure.

I sympathise with your toe situation, too! Extensively! Mine really made me reconsider writing torture fic (yeah, I'm a bit of a wimp).

:D Can't say I feel bright all of the time. Stupid thesis.
