What are the odds? . .

Nov 24, 2006 03:02

. . of our planet being created just the right distance from a star to support life?

. . that through all the fire and ice and meteorites, intelligent life still developed?

. . that out of the gazillion species to roam the Earth, we were born as modern-day humans? We could've been born as something really sad, like a barnacle, just being stuck in one place till you're eaten or die. Worst. job. ever.

. . that we were not only born human, but were also born after the World Wars, the Bubonic Plague, and all that crap that our ancestors had to live through?

. . that we weren't born in third world countries, developing countries or war-torn countries like more than half of the world's population was? That even when our own countries aren't perfect, at least we don't have to worry about bombs, food and shelter?

. . that we were born relatively healthy and can enjoy life if we choose?

So I really wish people would stop killing themselves and look at life from this angle. Suicide is like returning your winnings from a gazillion-to-one lottery, and c'mon, what are the odds of winning that again?

So that's what I'm thankful for: to be born and living in a great country, during the age of information where I can make a blog like this, and meet cool people from all over the world, like you, that I'd never have met otherwise. :)

(And yeah, Thanksgiving Day in Canada was in October, but I only started thinking about this tonight ^^; )

P.S. I'm also really thankful tonight after reading that Naruto fillers are finally ending! Yes!!
