[Ventry] It's a boy . . >_

One year removed and I really shouldn't bother getting mixed up in Japanese news as if I still lived there, but this one's been really bugging me lately. Here's how the story goes in layman's terms . .

  • When Emperor Akihito dies, by Imperial Law, his first-born son (Prince Naruhito) inherits the throne.

I totally agree with you. Most of Japan agrees with you. However, as I'm sure you know, the government doesn't move as quickly as it should. I'm still hoping that something gets looked at, especially since Abe is keen on modifying a lot (ok, most) of the constitution. Then again, he's a nationalist and is probably tickled pink that the baby is a boy. Meh. The gov't probably told Princess Kiko to get pregnant. She IS 39, after all... a bit late to randomly get pregnant.

Looking at her mother and how much of an influence she is in her girl's life, I believe Aiko will grow up to be a strong, young woman. Maybe she'll try to get things done.

Crisscross Japan is actually polling readers on whether they believe it was a natural birth. Some think it was in vitro at her age and they somehow tweaked it so that it would guarantee a boy, though I think that's stretching it. ;)

Aiko's goes to one of the best all-girl schools in Japan, I'm sure she'll grow up strong and smart, though neither is required to inherit the throne. :P I think when the time comes, they should just have an IQ test between Aiko and the new kid to determine who gets it. Or maybe write an essay: "Why I want to be king". :)
