Currently chilling in wonderful Oita-ken, in a beautiful **** star hotel at a ** hotel price. Thank you, JTB! ^^ I also happened to arrive during the city's festival . . I think the bus driver called it "onsen matsuri" though there's no onsen . . just a street full of food peddling. Man, I still don't know how the Japanese live so long with all this junk food and cigarettes. In any case, I love the smell of matsuri, and I just feel really, really happy right now. A little sad too though, as I only have one more week in Japan. And as great as Oita, Kumamoto, Kagoshima, and Yakushima were, I still really miss Hirono. I think I'm second-homesick. ;_;
Another two random thoughts:
- Why do so many Japanese train conductors speak in a "Popeye" voice? It doesn't sound like it's their real voice . . is speaking like Popeye polite in Japan? oO
- How many of you have met a "Tanaka"? It's weird, "Tanaka" appears so often in my textbooks back home that I expected it would be a common family name in Japan . . and I still haven't met one after two years. Then again, I've never met a Mr. Doe either . .
Crap, still don't have enough time to respond to comments or catch-up on LJ . . . gotta plan something to do on Tokyo weekend. I think I've pretty much seen everything though . . anyone got any suggestions for cool, obscure places in the big city? ^^
