The People on the Bus say " ? ? ? "

One of my greatest weaknesses is that I'm shy. You'll often see me in class looking left and right for others to speak first before I slowly raise my quivering hand up. ^_^; This is bad for teaching: you must be confident and show no fear or those kids will tear you up! So I started reading a book on "shy busting" and one of the tips was to meet ( Read more... )

I definetely don't think you're any more shy than those girls on that bus were ^_^ I think it's a little different for them to talk to the opposite gender when they don't know them. I, however, don't have any problems talking to people I meet, be it a guy or a girl. A few weeks ago I ended up talking to a guy on the plane I was taking home. He was also a science student, though not from biology but engineering, but still it was quite a pleasant chat. I think it's great you take the initiative to start conversations with strangers on the bus, I always think the atmosphere there is rather dull XDDDDDD

I tend to use public transportation as my chance to sleep or catch up on things I need to get done these days, so people talking to me gets a frosty response. XD

Oh, Nova. Man. I've been following its slow collapse through a friend who was working there. Most of the workers haven't been paid for months. I guess the problem with Nova is that people pay for a package of lessons up front -- so they need to be continuously expanding to make a profit. Once they hit a saturation point, they weren't signing up new people and they weren't making any profit. There's a really interesting blog entry about the business angle here.

(Happy Belated Comment again)

Yes, I get to use my Nova pic one last time! Thanks for the link. Y'know, if I was the Nova boss, I think I could've avoided this problem by making the contract and refund policy more detailed and explaining it to the clients clearly before they signed. Actually, if I was boss, I'd make a Nova point card and award them limited edition Nova figurines whenever they renewed. The Japanese can't resist those. ;)

Happy 2-Month Belated Response!

This is not because all men are inherently evil, but because there are too many nasty men that take the bus and have tried to pick me up in the past.

Yeah, I hate how some men cause the rest of us to be stigmatized as wolves. I was hoping that being on the "University bus" we could look past the sexes and speak as students from the same school.

We're much more receptive at cafes, bookstores, and supermarkets :)
I'd actually be way more shy to talk to people there. ^_^;

Wow, I'm proud of you taking these chances and talking to people on the bus. I had a similar system with work, where we were hiring all these new people and I didn't get the chance to know them (I was always holed up in a room charting) so every day I made a effort to get to know and help out someone who was working. These led to days where people either contantly asked me out or asked why I wasn't helping them. It was a horrible month and I gave it up. Now I just do my charting out in the open and listen in to what everyone else has to say.

I can completely relate to these two sentiments. I am the same way, so much so that it made me prefer taking the route of being an elementary teacher. Good luck in being more outgoing. You've already taken a step forward. :)
