Humperdink! Humperdink! Humperdink!

I saw a beautiful rainbow today. It was so hot today. Upwards of ninety degrees. I was dripping sweat, something that only happens on rare occasions, from working in the backyard after a seven hour camp orientation. Incredibly hot. And I'm dehydrated now,I think. But that's a side note. I was working in the backyard and when I went ot the garage to get a rake, my neighbor invited us to jump in their pool while they were out at a dance recital which was really really really nice of them, and that doesn't do justice to their kindness. They're so welcoming and thoughtful at the most random times. They really are sweet and I'm glad they moved in next to us.

A little later the hair on my arms started prickling and my neck felt funny, like something was pulsing through, no that's not right, it's hard to describe. it was like a pressure building inside and I knew it was going to rain. Plus it was insanely humid out. So we quickly put all the gardening tools away and Melinda and I ran to the front to get ready for the obviously approaching storm. My mother was yelling at us to go inside but we didn't listen. Eventually she came out and joined us towards the very end of the storm.

Now, the storm itself was amazing. It started off really slow and my sister and I, who was covered in mud and dirt and dust wearing shorts and a bathing suit top, are literally begging the sky to open up to relieve some of our pent up frustration and rinse the dust off of our bodies. G-d, when the rain finally did start to come down, we were jumping up and down and spinning around. So much fun. So much. But it was so slow. Tempting us with it's light drizzle beginning. Teasing us with the lightest of touches on our bare skin. Finally, the heavens streamed down upon us and we were soaked to the skin. We danced over to the front stoop and all of a sudden I felt a stinging pain on my right foot. There was this clear little rock lying on the ground next to it. I turned to Melinda, "It's hailing!" "What!!" she shrieked while continuing to laugh and play. "No, seriously, though. Look!" And I pointed all around the ground. It really was hailing. There were these small white balls falling from the sky and the ground was clicking softly, too. Not as loudly as it does when it hails during the winter time, but loud enough.

After the hail stopped, we stepped outside into the rain again. It had begun to let up and a heavy breeze took its place. I turned towards the east and across the cloud-darkened sky was a perfect rainbow. Complete and endless all in the same moment. I saw the top of the arch and how it curved gracefully to either side. "Can you get my camera, please?" I asked my mother. "No," she laughed with incredulity. "Please!" I begged her. "I just want a picture of the rainbow." And as she hesitantly walked back towards the house I murmured, "and then I'll...come inside. Eventually." to my sister. I figured she wanted me to come in so I'd bargain with her. Plus she didn't want to be out there in the first place. But by the time she got back downstairs, the rainbow had disappeared.

Melinda sent me a bumper sticker.

Ungh.  Yum.

If this world makes you crazy
And you've taken all you can
You can call me up
Because you know I'll be there
And I see your true colors shinin through
I see your true colors
And that's why I love you
So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful like a rainbow

the princess bride, hail, thunder, rainbow, cullens, rainstorms, camera, rain, lightening
